Hello:

I may be a victim of a locked Epyc 7551 and need to verify.

Could I pay someone a few bucks to borrow their 7001/7002 CPU for a few days to test of things boot? Like, as soon as it can boot, it gets shutdown and removed.

I just need to verify if it's a locked CPU or not.

Alternatively, if you have a known good system, maybe I can send you the CPU for you to test?

US only.

Edit: here's a pic of the error

lol, i didn't mean your postal code or location.
I mean the "Debug" POST Code the CPU throws in the system.
If it is 79, it is a PSB Locked CPU.

Hahaha...

Nah, no 79. Currently 61, was 0d before BMC fix.

I updated the original post with a pic of the error and code (bottom right corner).

please do not trust the displayed postcode, in my own experience, they do not get updated reliably.
Please have a look at the postcode snooping page in the ipmi instead.

I think it's time I try to get into IPMI/BMC again. It wasn't working before the new chip replacements.

FYI, I have a reddit thread on this with more details. (My STH thread didn't get much love).

I just created this thread to borrow an Epyc CPU... To find out if I do have a locked CPU.

...because I need that proof, before I can go back to AsRock Rack and tell them that it is indeed a bad board. Right now, they are blaming this on a possible locked CPU.

"MFG Mode" looks to me the BIOS is still in progress with some NVRAM ? initialisation.
unfortune situation with a not working CPU.
have you external flashed the BIOS ? some jumper settings ?
by the way: model of board ?

So, I found two undocumented jumpers that were jumped with 1-2. And one of the jumpers is labeled, well, debug_1.

Once I removed the jumpers, the system booted to BIOS setup!!!

So, no locked CPU and mobo boots. Marking the thread as completed thank you all!!

I've been so impressed with AsRock Rack offerings over Supermicro lately when it comes to IPMI that I just overlooked checking all jumpers. Skip a step, waste 2 months of off and on spare time. Doh!
