Hello everyone,
I like to get some inputs...
Let's assume I have 2 identical servers, identical in every way, except for the RAID card. The drives are the same and in the same configuration.
One card has 1GB of cache and the other 4GB. The files being written to the drives are "smallish", let's say no more than 50MB. In this case will the difference in cache size make any difference in performance.

Thanks everyone!
Ray

what drives? spinners? ssd? what generation cpus in raid cards? this is what matters

if old spinners, it doesnt matter much for small arrays, but newer gen cards is important on larger

if new all flash, massive difference, the generation that is, not size of cache.

If the prices difference is less that 10% (for me) I would say go with the more ram :D
In this case will the difference in cache size make any difference in performance.
"It depends"

for reads? probably not

for writes?
with hdds? very unlikely unless you have a rack full with jbods (and >24 hdds per jbod)
with ssds probably yes, especially with the newer ones that support nvme besides sata & sas

The plan is two RAID 10 arrays made with 600GB 15K drives.
The reason I’m asking the question is this server will be remote as I’m taking a job in another state and just want to get all my projects done before I leave.

how many drives? you need at least 48+ before it matters much on them Id say
