Anybody seen and X11SDV boards for sale yet ? i only saw the superserver config with price so far...

Supermicro SYS-E300-9D Embedded Processor

I am kind of keen to spend some $$ and do a comparison if performance vs lowest power (size and noise also considerations) between a good selection of systems D-1540,D-2123IT,D-2141I,C3955,E5-2640v4, and maybe a scalable CPU to see what i will use as my always on system. Some in my possession already of course hence the maybe kind of strange list.

@Evan if only there was a site that did this...

Seriously though, you'd want to compare Xeon Silver too.
Haha yes I know what your saying ;)
But I was thinking very must my specific low power dream.

Sure the C3955 is probably lowest power but how does it feel performance wise, I can see the reviews but not always the full story is it.

I don’t have and scalable stuff so like the D-2100 would be purchased.

I like the idea of X11SPM and say a silver 4114, especially the 6 dimm slots.

Let’s see, right now can’t even any X11SDV boards for sale yet, or even prices...

Going to have to test a few 12v power bricks as well to find good ones, maybe the supermicro ones are actually good even if not that high power is I was to run the e5 or scalable systems on 12v only power.

Would love that.

Will the 16 core board be ok with 250w PSU and 4 drives. Wondering if it can be dropped in to a CSE-721TQ-250B.

@Davewolfs @Patrick your correct it would be good to include it but I would not really think it wise to be buying the old generation, I happen to have the D-1540 already so kind of different if I keep it vs buying new, Same with the e5-2640v4

I intend to keep a system or 2 based on E5-2680v4, 256gb, SAS SSD as a high performance lab where I really use it for bare metal cluster testing etc but that may only get used on occasion. (For example the 2640v4 won’t fit in a single cpu config like Azure in a box so I do see a use for the powerful hardware)

Maybe I even find that I can do more than I expect on the low power platform with an NVMe drive and some SATA SSD’s.

I am reasonably sure 4-10 cores (16 atom) with 128gb or maybe 192gb in case of scalable will do everything I want.
Platform must be ddr4 rdimm though as I have it already as well.

16-core what ? D-2100 ?
I have a CSE-721TQ-250B but has a D-1540 currently in it...
I have had 4 x 8tb HGST HE drives in it and even running flat out was only around 100w but I am going to get a better power meter to be sure what everything consumes.

For my test I was only planning to have SATA SSD (Eg Samsung PM863 or Intel something similar) and maybe an NVMe for high performance requirements.

Again, D-1500 is still going to be around for several years. It is a lower power Xeon D.

I have some photos of Facebook's Yosemite V2 sleds with the D-2100 series 18C. One is water cooled. The D-1500 did not need water cooling.

That says a lot about how high power those d-2100’s are but again it is 18 full cores.

Let’s see where I get to, right now there seems almost no chance to buy D-2100 system anyway, although C3000 seems available now, kind of expensive for what it is but may be a good low power option if the VM’s run ok on slow cores.
