Interesting platform. All of the auctions seem to be in the UK though. Is someone aware of such a platform for Germany?

Technically anyone can bid, but you have to be willing to come and collect.

The basic format is that either the company is going out of business or they need to dump a load of kit ASAP because of relocation or a contract ending.

I have bought from them before, you have to remember not to get caught up though because it can be worse than ebay! And the additional fees they add can catch a buyer out.

This looks like a fun auction. A bit hard to find any info about those Ice-servers.
They are video playout servers but I don't have direct experience of them. Probably 8-16 cores with 64GB of RAM, probably not a GPU but if it was it would be a Quadro. They were probably sold for upward of £30k with their specialist software.

This might be some more info on the server specification.

I'd like one or two if only for the white chassis but its the whole hassle of driving down there afterwards and picking the thing up is putting me off.
Yea, I think they'd make a lot more if they did postage but they are really looking for quick offload and the buyers can sell on. You see this stuff end up on eBay sometimes.

Govdeals here in the US is the same--local collections and a lot of 'buyer's' premium and other fees to factor in or you can get bamboozled. ;)

Correct me if I'm wrong but the cost looks like ( Bid + 15.5% ) + VAT, so a £100 bid = £138 payable before petrol & time costs to pickup.

Only seems worth it if you know exactly what you're getting inside the servers, or the price is so ridiculously low you just don't care if it doesn't pay off.

Yea, I got a Dell Latitude i7 for something like £150 elsewhere, it was less than a year old and clean.

I was very tempted by some video servers earlier in the year which I knew were very well spec'ed but they went for more than I wanted to spend. But I have been caught out a couple of times so I am getting gunshy now.

I assume there is no way to know exactly what the spec is and if they are actually working unless you physically visit the site?

Hi

I think the it might be fair to assume the bidders who paid an average of £2.5k for the Supermicro ICE Servers knew exactly what they were and probably had a use for them.

I took a quick look and I think the Grass Valley Ice Playout Servers are based on this platform, but I may be wrong.

6029U-TR4T | 2U | SuperServers | Products | Super Micro Computer, Inc.

It was interesting to watch the bidding.

Have fun.

RedX1
SAM/Snell was bought by Grass Valley, so the products are synonymous.

I believe my colleagues are buying GV ITX machines from this auction because it will save us a fortune on kit we would have to buy from GV ourselves.

These days I don't get involved in bidding wars, I only look for bargains where no one else is interested.
