Hallo gang, hope all of ya are safe and healthy in these crazy times.

We are currently in the process of replacing our HPE StoreVirtual Solution since it has been discontinued and two options stick out for me

1) a simple 2 node cluster with StorMagic vsan, consisting two hpe gen10 Dl360 servers (xeon gold Rs, 256gb each, hybrid storage around 40TB) on hyper-v

2) 4 similiral servers (but 1U) as Compute Nodes , 2x HPE MSA 2062 12gb SAS SFF Storage Nodes, about 48tb hybrid storage each, again with StorMagic

budget is about 100k

obviously first solution doesnt cost as much, hence i could play with the setup a bit, adding more ram and replacing the hybrid storage with all flash one
using 16 core xeons due licensing

Second option adds more compute , redundacy and security (seperate storage) but is more complex to deploy and limited by storage.

we run about 50 vms (classic stuff: exchange, a few sql databases, erp, dcm, second dc, a remote terminal srv..etc)

Any thoughts ?

If you have existing 10gig (or faster) pair switches in place with at least 4 free 10gig ports each, you could consider spending money on 4 Dell/Supermicro servers and running nutanix CE (free)
Nutanix Sizer - Says 4 nodes with 2x1.92TB SSD (mixed use) + 4x8TB should net you around 61TiB usable before compression/dedup with RF2. Replace 8tb with 12tb to get to 89TiB usable.
