Cisco UCS C240 M4 2U for CAD $53.70 + 500 CAD shipping to me intercontinental. They might be scamming with super high shipping to compensate for their low selling price.

CAD 104.70 + 700 CAD to ship me in Europe so again this might be great deal for you NA people.
Some Supermicro server seems like 15x LFF positions in 3U form factor

Their shipping rates are normal within Canada and to the US (under $100 USD to me). Servers usually exceed the size limits that the post office will take, so, it gets to be very expensive to ship DHL/FedEx/UPS to Europe. Prices are exactly what I would expect.

I've bought WAY to much from these guys and they are great (not scammers). Just to ship this within Canada, one province over is almost $100 CAD. That rate seems normal for overseas.

Those are pretty much on par with what id expect them to be, but the shipping out of Canada does hurt a bit.

Its one of those sellers that have alot of interesting stuff, but unless you want enough to move a pallet the shipping per unit really hurts.

Once you've received a few and get the hang of it, it's really not that bad. LTL freight is just so much cheaper once you go past a few servers.

As mentioned previously, the seller is not gouging on shipping. It really does cost that much to put stuff on a plane and fly it across the ocean. Freight is cheap because it goes surface (though it can go air, but it will be anything but cheap then).

You might want to look at this seller, their global shipping rates are fairly decent (almost suspect they write too small dimensions) and prices are often fairly solid.
In my experience they accept 15-20% below asking prices.
I wouldn't. They can't package anything to safe their life and were a headache to deal with. I got this from them a week ago and if it isn't obvious, it was completely destroyed:

To ship weight by air costs significantly more for sure.

Im somewhat suprised that ebay got the pricing they have for global shipping at all.
The last R740 servers i got from US to Norway was 131$/ea, that is with DHL sending it by air to Norway and doing ondoor delivery.

I can only assume they want the quantity to fill up unused space on their flights out, as they fly every x hours rather than wait for a full flight as the express stuff also needs to keep flowing.
Its nowhere close to what they would charge normally these days.

They do love those pellets, i was just yesterday filling 2 garbage bags of them.
I have not had any damage from them but doing pellets instead of foamers does increase that risk significantly.

By how much they sell id expect damage to just be a refund rather than hassle, they are bound to have some shipping damage overall and especialy when cheaping out on going with pellets.

35kg server with a single layer of bubble wrap. Packing peanuts are inadequate for shipping any server. I only use rigid/expanding foam for them once you go above 15kg and even below that, still need to take care to protect the ears/corners and ensure there is no movement of the server. They offered me a paltry ~10% partial refund and wanted to process an insurance claim with FedEx on top of that.

Hey at least you got SOME Padding there :p.

I received a Network Switch from eBay UK where ALL bubble-wrap was flattened by the Time it arrived here. It was a miracle it worked and I could install OpenWRT on it. I guess Zyxel had some good Engineers ;) .

And a Week ago I received a Motherboard from Germany with less than 5mm Padding on all Sides. No apparent Damage so it could also be dead CPU but it wouldn't POST, Video Output, nothing.

EDIT 1: People these Days just don't follow Packing Guidelines. It's reccomended to have at least 5 cm (5 CENTIMETERS, or 50 millimeters, definitively NOT 5 millimenters !!!) on all Sides of any Package. And if you have a > 10kg Server I would expect more than that in terms of Solid Foam of course.

EDIT 2: on my Way to a Pakkeshop I can also tell you WHY they recommend 5 cm on all Sides. The Delivery Guy was hand handling a Pile of Packages and one fell from approx. 2 meter Height. Guess how much 5 mm Padding would protect from that ?

EDIT 3: on top of it, even when correctly Padded, People deliver stuff which is LOOSE inside. So while it might be fully "protected" on all Sides, it's still free to move. It's not good to thrown any Hardware in a Washing Machine / Tumbler and then send it to somebody  . Packages have to be packaged properly. Sufficient Padding AND secured, avoid loose Items !

It might be recommended by some but its not normal or needed if using proper materials.

This is why expensive packages increasingly have G stickers on them, a drop like that equals shipper paying for a new part.
A 2 meter drop is not supposed to happend.

Key Word is "if". That's NOT what my Experiences tells me. People put almost no Padding at all ...

Key Word is "supposed". It does NOT mean that People don't do it :p . I saw it with my own Eyes.

There is also the shift towards greener lighter packaging that comes into play.
Some vendors have maybe a third of the packaging for a server compared to 10 years ago, with almost all foam replaced by cardboard also.

Most 50-100€ servers i buy used are packed better than 50-100 000€ servers i unpack through work.
