I am looking to buy a managed switch, preferably cisco. Unfortunately this is completely not neccesary so i can't really justify spending a whole lot on it. All I can find on eBay is 100mbit within my price range, so I figure ill save myself some time and ask here.

The only thing I really care about is that it is gigabit and 12+ ports. I would imagine I'm looking at 24+ ports for managed switches, not sure though what exists out there.

Anyway, what's the cheapest I can get? Average low and/or what I would be lucky to find one for.

Is there a reason to be committed to Cisco?

If you want a managed switch, rock solid at a reasonable price, look at the HP 1810-24G or 1910-24G. Wonderful little managed switches.

Not necessarily committed, but its the only type of switch we use at work so the extra experience would be helpful. However if getting one at a reasonable price isnt possible then I have no problem with getting something else.

Just looked it up, out of my price range. :/ I was hoping for something in the $100 or less price range. I'm surprised that there doesn't seem to be any gigabit switches old enough to be sold for dirt cheap.

Switches hold their value surprisingly well. Going to be tough to find a 12+ port fully managed gigabit switch for <$100. Up that limit to $200 and options start to open up.

I agree. if you dont need/want the 10gbe ports i cant help but reccommend the dell 2716/2724/etc series. totally silent, managed, and works amazingly well. I have one that hasnt been rebooted or power cycled for a couple of years. compare that to the worthless consumer router/switches that seem to need to be rebooted weekly.

im using that and a pfsense build now and never have to reboot routers/switches anymore.

100usd will get you a hp 1810-24G if you wait. Great rugged switches that will never break. No 10G at that price. It is smart switch (web interface) but can do vlans and trunks and most of the stuff people think they want when they say "managed".

The HP switch is alright but the web interface isn’t the greatest tbh.

What is your budget exactly? I see many used 3560G/3750G switches for under 100 bucks
