Is there a cheap way to adapt 3,5" supermicro disk carriers to 2.5"?

Supermicro sells them separately (MCP-220-00043-0N) but they are quite pricey. Especially since I have the carrier already and I just need the steel adapter.

You can find adapters online, the challenge is to make sure the SATA ports align with the backplane.

Any thoughts?

Cheers,
K.

I have had good luck with the metal DELL adapters. If I have some spare time this morning, I'll mount a cheap 2.5 and take some pictures. These carriers used to be ~ 3.00 each. IIRC 2 screws from the adapter will go into the SSD but only 1 hole from the SSD typically lines up with the supermicro carrier holes. <- my memory might be wrong.

my memory was incorrect. 2 holes do line up on the drive side when mounting to the carrier. so you should have a minimum of 4 screws holding the drive w/adapter to the supermicro carrier. I have used these in 826 with EL1 backplane and 836 with both EL1 and TQ backplanes and both metal rail and plastic over metal rail carriers for 2.5" SAS/SATA/NVME SSD . Fit should be universal on standard SM 3.5" carriers/backplane.

Pictures with both a 7mm SATA and 15mm SAS. I have also used these with optane 900p and Intel P4510 nvme.

There's 3d-printable models available on thingiverse. I've printed 4 of them and using it in Supermicro 846 case.
