Well, Hitachi has a good reputation for decently strong drives. They are 6Gbps drives, so that's a good thing. Also, the Hitachi's spin at 7200rpm as opposed to the 5400rpm WD and some Seagate variants. I think it is just a good deal overall, as most 2TB drives go for around $45 to $55.

$35 + free shipping for these can't be beat at the moment. That's almost close if not similar to bulk pricing when you calculate costs right?

Got some more :) so how do you guys test used drives to make sure they're OK before you trust them with your data?

I personally test all my drives with HDsentinel. The software is awesome. It tells me automatically the condition and health of the drive and if there are any bad sectors or reallocated sectors. It works great for SSD's and Hard drives alike, and reports if TRIM is enabled on any SSD's in your system. As soon as I get a drive, especially from Ebay, I always test it in my usb 3.0 flat dock. That software has saved me many times from receiving low health drives and bad/doa drives.

    HDsentinel

You also don't need to have the full paid version for it to work. Of course, you can always acquire a "license key" if you want. Just search the web/torrents for the appropiate files...

Fry's had the Seagate Constellation ES.2 for $49 with 1yr warranty. At $15+ cheaper I think this is a good deal.

Auction still going strong! Wow! I just wonder where they're getting all these drives from? Hitachi themselves? Maybe a data center offload? Just convinced my brother to get 5 of em' too.

For the Canadians in the group:

HGST Internal Hard Drive HUA722020ALA331 2TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache From NewEgg.ca. Same limit of 5. $54.99 CAD or about $42.62 USD - but no $10+ shipping, or duty or customs.

Worth noting as I play with a bunch of SAN's - these P'N are compatible with NetApp and EMC VNX with the appropriate firmware loaded. My guess is this is where they came from en masse, but without seeing a label hard to tell.

Don't suppose anyone knows where I can get VNX/VNXe SAS/SATA trays from eh?

Please share some of the smart reports when you get them. I wonder how abused they are.

Yeah, i was wondering what their grand total of stock was. I just hope they held back an additional 100 or so to compensate for replacements on drives that will possibly come in bad health or DOA due to shipping. I just pray they dont use usps. Pray for all that is good in this world!

Seems like they still have some of the 3gbps 32mb cache variants, which are still great especially if you still use first gen lsi cards like the 3081 or the 31601e, which go dirt cheap on ebay for fun.

If i had a bit more cash to dedicate to this, i would buy another set just for the shits and giggles and for the lulz.

I will be posting my health status on the drives as soon as i get em'. Cant wait to throw them in a raidz1 pool and put more porn, er... um... data on them. Not gonna lie though. Abella Anderson vids will be taking up at least 1/5 of my drive space. I would turn that spanish mami inside out all night.

Awesomesauce, you didnt get a chance to grab a few? Ah shoots! Sorry to hear that man! Im hoping they relist a few more. I have seen it happen sometimes with auctions that have alot of stock as they generally realize they still have some more due to maybe cancellations or non payments/cleared payments etc. Will keep an eye out for relists.
