my 10 year old habi 2u finally died the other day and it looks time I upgrade to something more modern. I have a 3ware 9750-8i raid card with 8 drives that I was using two 8087 cables for.

I got rid of my rack in the basement and now need either a tower chassis with 8087 backplane or just a tower and 2 3.5 by 4 enclosures I can put it in (also hopefully with 8087 backplane connector). So far I have been unable to find either a chassis or an enclosure with a SAS backplane connector. Anyone suggest anything? I found one perfect case and ordered it on ebay but they came back saying they were out of stock and wouldn't be getting anymore. Here

In-Win IW-PLV12BX No Power Supply Pedestal Mass Storage Server Chassis 827955024154 | eBay

anyone know where I might be able to find either a chassis like this or an enclosure that has a SAS connector? I've google hard as I cna and haven't found anything. I'd rather not have to do the whole fanout cable thing but I guess I can if that ends up being my last resort. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you want something easily available and a bit more future-proof you can always just use an 8087 -> 8643 cable...? I'm using an InWin pedestal case myself with a MiniSASHD (8643) backplane with an M1015 card (8087 connectors).

8643 is newer and is somewhat more compact, but for your purposes doesn't provide any real advantage worth changing your RAID card for. For SATA/SAS purposes they are just connectors. You could just get an SFF-8087 -> SFF-8643 cable to connect your existing card to a new backplane.

Still unable to find a good pedestal case with a good SFF backplane either 8087 or 8643. Still looking for suggestions.

There are 8087 to 4x SATA cables that you can get and still use your RAID controller. Back planes in most pedestal configurations come with SATA connectors even for SAS drives. For example Supermicro CSE-743 / 745 case.

yea thats what I'm finding. Its just such a pain though. With 8087 or 8643 connectors and power already setup then its just super easy to configure. Can't believe there are so few chassis with sff backplanes.
