Hello, I've been using Napp-it since around 2013, and luckily for me I don't have to do much, it just works. Folders are currently shared over my network via AFP to my iMac. I use a gen7 HP micro server as a NAS for additional storage and streaming movies. I have not been able to configure automatic backups. Anyway...

I recently wanted to update the software, as last update was almost 1 year ago, but I cannot log in remote via web browser.
The address I use is 192.168.1.2:81

Can anyone tell me what I should do? Forgive me, it is probably simple, but I haven't had to do any maintenance in so long.

update :
I connected a monitor and keyboard to my server (it is normally headless) and logged in. I tried to restart napp-it, and receive an error
Code:
/root # cd /etc/init.d
/etc/init.d # napp-it

mini-https : cannot find /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2
/usr/bin/napp-it : line 17 : 27428 : killed
ok
Oh dear, what has broken?

is this a Linux system?
In this case, start napp-it via sh /var/web-gui/data/tools/linux/napp-it

This is Unix, SunOS 5.11. I believe I went with Illumos over open Indiana, but it was years ago that I set this up.

I don’t understand why it is looking for a Linux file. When I run the command you give I receive the same error.

restart napp-it command gives same error : cannot find /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2

I thought my system was up to date, however, this appears to be a release from 2016. I was sure I have updated since then??? I wonder if it would be possible to upgrade the system still? However, OmniOS says that an upgrade from this old version is not supported.

I haven't done any action to the system in months. The last time I logged in was via the web interface to see if there was an update to napp-it. I cannot remember if it told me there was none at the time, or if there was I thought I was successful in downloading and updating my system.

151020 is really old and no longer supported. As every OmniOS stable release has its own dedicated repository, a pkg update gives only the last 151020 state, not the current 151038.

It is not practically possible to update 151020. I would simply export the pool, install current 151038, install napp-it via the wget online installer and import the pool. If you want to preserve napp-it settings, save/restore /var/web-gui/_log/*

So tonight I worked on updating my system. I exported my pool, backed up /var/web-gui/_log/, installed OmniOS 151038, and imported my pool. Things were going well, but I receive an error trying to install Napp-it. What am I missing?

Thanks gea,
I see my mistake and have re-run the command and installed napp-it. However, I cannot log in via a web browser.
I am pointing my browser to http://192.168.1.2:81 and it does not connect, as if napp-it web service is not running.
Can you provide a little more help?

Code:
############################################################################

        -thats it, have fun
        -connect your browser to http://serverip:81

your network-ip's:
        inet 127.0.0.1 netmask ff000000
        inet 192.168.1.2 netmask ffffffe0 broadcast 192.168.1.31

############################################################################

-> install-log see /home/user/setup-napp-it.log
-> first-time install: set password for root and napp-it (passwd username)

##############################################################################
-> reboot is suggested but not needed if you set current BE as default
-> on updates, you can restart napp-it via /etc/init.d/napp-it restart!!
##############################################################################

If you like napp-it, please support us and use napp-it PRO
If you use OmniOS, support development as a Patron or a support contract
Also, when should I copy/restore my settings from /var/web-gui/_log/

I would first check if the server is reachable:
ping 192.168.1.2

if this is ok, try a restart of napp-it:
/etc/init.d/napp-it restart

If you have saved the old settings from /var/web-gui/_log/* ex password or jobs:
restore prior login (ex via WinSCP)

Thanks, I actually already tried those two steps: ping to 192.168.1.2 is good and restart napp-it did not solve issue.

What I did find was that Mac Safari web browser will not connect to Napp-it server, but using Firefox it will connect. I will investigate the cause of the browser issue, so far I have tried disabling ad-blocking extensions with no improvement.

I'm also excited to see if there is improvement with new OmniOS and/or Napp-it. I was previously using AFP to share my pool over network, but I think SMB3 may be more useful now.

Use menu Services > Bonjour and Autostart to configure SMB. You can enable SMB advertising for your Mac, TimeMachine over SMB and a nice Xserve Icon for the OmniOS server.

I restored the info in OmniOS /var/web-gui/_log/ then I restarted Napp-it via
# /etc/init.d/napp-it restart
On my Mac I did not see any shared folders as I used to. Sometimes shared folders on my Mac would disappear in Finder, such as after a long power failure when NAS restarted in the past. I tried manually connecting via Finder > Go > Connect to Server
I tried the usual afp://192.168.1.2 but it will not connect, it gives an error that 'There was a problem connecting to the server'
I tried smb://192.168.1.2 and I connected to a share... however I do not know what it is. The directory tree of the share is c$/windows/system32/vss and there is only one file shared, eventlog.dll This is strange. I unmounted the share.

In Napp-it I went to menu Services > Bonjour and Autostart. I enabled Bonjour dns/multicast service.
I could not enable "Advertise SMB service for OmniOS" as my license does not allow it.
I added the following to Bonjour settings

#Advertise SMB service using SMB-over-TCP port 445
dns-sd -R "OmniOS" _smb._tcp local. 445 &
dns-sd -R "OmniOS" _device-info._tcp. local 445 model=Xserve &

# Enable Mac TimeMachine backups
dns-sd -R "OmniOS" _adisk._tcp local sys=waMa=0,adVF=0x100 &
dns-sd -R "OmniOS" _adisk._tcp local dk0=adVN=Time Capsule,adVF=0x82 &
When I click "save" I receive the following info.
ok file saved and copied back
cp /var/web-gui/data/napp-it/zfsos/02_Services=-lin/40_Bonjour_and_Autostart/02_settings/bonjour.sh /var/web-gui/_log/
update and restart dns-sd, please wait..
at: can't create a job for you
I restarted napp-it again.... still nothing is showing up in Finder.
I feel like I am very close, but still not working.

<update>
I updated Napp-it from v18 to v19.12b15, I now see under Bonjour menu service that I have options to enable 'Advertise SMB service' and 'Enable Time Machine support'... but when I change these to 'enable' and click submit, I still receive error "at: can't create job for you". The bonjour page reloads and 'Advertise SMB service' and 'Enable Time Machine Support' revert back to disabled.

I did update to v19.12 and I still receive
at: can't create job for you
Are there other services that this is dependent on? Also, I'm confused why after copying the /var/web-gui/_log directory back to OmniOS the old AFP share service does not allow me to connect to my shared zfs pool via AFP. I wonder if something else isn't right.

I notice you call attention to

It seem that you just re-enabled the old and already downloaded v.19b15
In menu About > Update, select download v19 instead activate. This downloads and activates the newer v.19b16 that fixes the problem.

Gea, 19.12b15 was the newest version it was showing me.. there was nothing newer than that, although it seemed strange that it was 2 years old... I suspected a problem, some gremlin in the code that was interfering with the function.

Well, I spent too many hours trying to fix the problem, so I exported my pool, blew away the old Napp-It and did a fresh install of napp-it. I imported my pool, and set it up from scratch. I did not import my saved settings because I thought maybe there was a conflict with old settings???

I now have the option to upgrade to 21.01b9 with a 30 day trial of app_complete.

Under Bonjour menu I tried to enable 'Advertise SMB Service' and 'Enable Time Machine Support'. But when I click submit it reverts back to disabled.
The Bonjour multicast service remains enabled however. Under /var/web-gui/_log/bonjour.sh file looks like
Code:
#!/usr/bin/bash
/usr/bin/dns-sd -R "omnios" _smb._tcp local 445 &
/usr/bin/dns-sd -R "omnios" _device-info._tcp local 445 model=Xserve &
/usr/bin/dns-sd -R "omnios" _adisk._tcp local 445 'sys=waMa=0,adVF=0x100' &
/usr/bin/dns-sd -R "omnios" _adisk._tcp local 445 'dk0=adVN=Time Capsul,adVF=0x82' &
Still do not understand why it will not advertise the service or appear in Finder under Network for my Mac...

On the positive side of things, the new Napp-it install allows me to connect using my Safari browser, so I don't need to run Firefox. Also, I added an SMB user account on OmniOS, and on my Mac I am able to go to "connect to server" and connect via SMB://192.168.1.2, enter in user/login credentials and the shares appear in Finder/Desktop on the Mac.

I cannot confirm your problem. I just did a
About > Update > "download 19.12" and ended with current 19.12b16

btw
The setting from an old napp-it are not relevant for bonjour
but you need 19.12b16 home or pro 21.01b9 where the fix is also included.

Main difference between the free home version and the pro version is support, encryption (auto unlock, keyserver) and Clustering. Bugfixes or support for newer OmniOS is at the same level.
