I am trying to find out since there are 12 3.5 HDDs for the Dell C6100 which means 3 3.5 HDDs per node but i read somewhere that it each node can take maximum 4 3.5 HDDs per node.

The c6100 motherboards have six SATA ports each. It is possible - though not trivial - to re-wire the c6100 chassis to route up to that many drives per board. With this answer I am merely repeating a tiny portion of the excellent information available in the epic c6100 threads. They are more than worth the time required to browse them.
