Or maybe we could extract the PSP fw from dell and then plant into our custom bios, but this base on the hypothesis that there is not any bios signed/verify procedure in EPYC boot
imho: one plan behind PSP/PSB is to prevent firmware attacks. if a part of the bios is changed by a hacker, the system won't boot.

emmmm, maybe you are right, they will check the entire BIOS image to build a trusted root

There are 7D12 chips non-Dell lockout available in ebay currently: 7D12

Bummer it states that it doesn't work on SK Hynix RAM. I've these on my current H11SSL board rev 2.0

For the price, if this chip can be overclocked, it will be great but it seems that this is not an ES version.

Anyone ran the CPU benchmarks on 7D12? What's actual idle and loaded power consumption excluding the other system components?

The biggest problem is its low TDP. Only 85w, while the north bridge(SIOD) can already take up to 50w, leaving only 35w for all 32 cores.

Also it only supports 4 memory channels.

BTW CPU-Z score is meaningless here. It has very low stress and uses nearly no system memory, perfectly avoiding all its shortcomings.

I actually have one of it running in my Homelab.
The CPU itself is actually quite custom and has the following specs:
  • 32 Core
  • 1.1GHz base with 3.0GHz boost clock.
  • 85W TDP (125W limit)
  • only 4 Memory channels, the others are fused off or non existent.
  • CPU Multiplier is unlocked and can be overclocked. But due TDP Limit, it is not useful
  • No multi CPU support
  • Infinityfabric clock is locked at 1200MHz
There are some memory controller limitations with this CPU:
  • SK Hynix memory is not supported and memory self test fails.
  • DDR4-2133 memory does not boot.
  • CPU can only run with one DIMM per channel because of TDP limit.
Also I played a bit around and found out that XFR can be enabled as well as other OC and TR only stuff.
This it requires huge BIOS modifications and I did it only experimental.
I think a Threadripper IO DIE is used but with 128PCIE lanes enabled (The IO DIE internal sku is the same as the TR one not like Epyc).
Also it worked out of the box on a Supermicro H12SSL-C mainboard with bios version 2.3.

At 85W cTDP and PPT the all core clock is 2.3GHz(1.1GHz with AVX2)
At 105W cTDP and 125W PPT the all core clock is at 3.0GHz(2.4-2.7GHz with AVX2)
When the cTDP is set higher than 105W the performance tanks in most Benchmarks.

I also did some Benchmarks at 105W here:

Hi, thank you for sharing you information. By the way, where can I buy this CPU for less than $100?

a month later the discount has ended. today it's from $180 and up at ebay.
but still available for ¥ 700 at taobao (use superbuy is you are not in china, but then add tax and fees)

SK Hynix memory is not supported and memory self test fails.
DDR4-2133 memory does not boot.
booted with a Hynix 2133 MHz stick for me, 2133 MHz micron and 2400 Mhz samsung too. Currently running 4 stick of micron 2133 on it & KRPA-U16 board.

Code:
        Type Detail: Synchronous Registered (Buffered)
        Speed: 2133 MT/s
        Manufacturer: Micron Technology
        Serial Number: 0FBA02D3

May I ask what Asus bios version you use? Seems Supermicro is the most restrictive vendor with these CPUs. Many assumption what works and what doesn't with these CPUs are build on early Chinese tests with Supermicro H11SSL-i boards. I had them also running on Gigabyte MZ32-AR0 with Micron/Samsung 2133 memory while 'everybody' mentioned 2133s do not work on these. I really like this CPU.

all sellers of 7D12 mentioned that.
maybe it is a recommention because 7D12 with only 4 mem.channels and the IF running with only 1066Mhz is a worst case scenario in memory bandwidth.

Looks like an old one.
Version0703
version 5.14 03/06/2020
Agesa v1.0.0.6

I couldn't believe that there was no bifurcation settings available. Going to update bios and check if they added that. This should be something standard to a server BIOS.

Ok, that's interesting. All of my 7D12 don't post beyond Agesa 1.0.0.1 on all boards SM/Gigabyte/Asus
