I am having trouble locating the part number for a HP cable that connects the HP 824019-001 nvme controller. The controller has 3 ports that can drive 6 nvme pcie x4 drives. So each cable should be able to carry 8 lanes of pcie signals. It can work in a Dl580 g9 that connects with a expander which can take 5 sff nvme drives.
Both the controller and the expander can be found in ebay. But I have no idea if a cable can still be found connecting them.
Anybody here is using this controller?

Thanks

I think on the expander the connector is the same. 8 lanes on both. The hp part number for the expander is 802276-001. Three connectors for five drives. if they are generic 8654 tHen it’s great. Thanks!

the connector on that HBA is SFF-8654
HP Gen9 does not use SFF-8654 (AKA Slimline SAS). It uses older MiniSAS style of connectors for both SAS and NVME backplanes and controllers. The part number for the one of the 8i-to-8i cables is 826898-001. There are others for different servers (backplanes).

A follow up on this in case there are other people interested in this. I was able to find a 8i-to-8i cable (straight to straight) to fit in the dl580. The hp part number is 735034-001. This plus that I was able to get a deal for the nvme backplane for $40 lured me to do the nvme upgrade.
The cable looks the same as the normal hpe sas cable between raid controller and sas backplane but is electrically different. The sas cable does not work, probably because it's not bi-directional -- just a guess.

826898-001 is made for nvme connection but it wouldn't work for DL580 since it has a right angle connector on one end. I first tried another one labeled 748942-001 which is used for connecting hpe sas controllers and hd backplanes and although it physically fit it didn't work! And then i got this 735034-001 from ebay and just got lucky it worked! I think HPE nvme cables are not the same as their sas cables even though the pin numbers/geometry are the same. Also the sas cable is not bidirectional but the nvme cable is. They are difficult to find since they are normally packaged with the back plane or the switch card. They are also sometimes called "scsi express" cables.

Thanks, also, did the normal 2.5" SAS caddies work okay for the 2.5" U.2 drives, or does HP lock them to only work with "NVme" chipped caddies?

Thanks!

Yes normal caddies work as well but some LED functions may be missing. It’s not a big deal since the nvme disks for this system are not hot pluggable. I learned this when I removed a disk and it led to a total system crash.
