I am successfully upgraded to 7.2.0 , thank you everyone.

Just curious, it takes 10mins to fully bootup, it that normal ? any chance to get it faster ?

I am using it as standalone switch only.

the 10 minute boot is what happens when you have a system booting an entire OS (two actually, one in each hypervisor, it runs two) from a giant CPIO archive on a CF card from 20 years ago :)

boot time for VDX = 12-15 minutes. For example cause it use SQL for configuration.
Actually correnspoded Cisco Nexus 5500/5600 series have the ~same boot time (where its use sata connection for flash card)

it went over like 4x keeps looping, anyone know why?

Actually, can I still manage the switch by itself in Logic Chassis mode? Is there any benefits or problems not going back to VCS Rbridge mode? We plan to just deploy this in another location as a "normal" L2 Switch
Did anyone figure this out? My vdx crashed and then failed to boot stopping at the HV. Tried a net install but keep getting the above. Also put in a new CF card just in case but still the same issue.

Nevermind. It's fine. Spits this out but still writes to all 4 partitions and boots.

Hi I'm new to this VDX6740. Bought it from ebay, switch doesn't seem to work as DHCP switch like any cheap switches. There is no internet when I connected. Are there any CFG to make it work? It has 48x 10G, 4x40Gb ports. I want to make all ports to be same VLAN 1.

like a dhcp-server or dhcp-client?
of course it can work as dhcp-client but generally in datacenter people set static ip. So if you don`t know it, use console cable to setup static or dhcp on Management! port.

In default config (if seller reset it) all 52 ports are closed to switch Any trafic: you need to config at least L2 for each port (configuration-> interface ID/0/N->"switchport" ). By default all ports in VLAN1 but not transfer any trafic between ports.

Don`t mesh datacenter switch with cheap home hub.

Did I made good cfg?

for VLAN1 not sure. cause you set IP that get your VLAN - probably you don`t need it. dhcp-relay will work without it (your servers in ports will get IP from dhcp-server that connected to this switch).

it should be configured management port: configuration->interface Management 1/0-> ip address dhcp. Separate management port get IP and you can configure it by ssh (or Brocade Network Advisor for example).

Yes, now trafic between ports should go. You can check it with "show interface status" - all your ports in "Mode" will show "Access" (L2 access)

you mean , I have to plug terminal to management port not serial port?

You can, not have to.
When switch in rack stuff controls it by network management port (ip+ssh/BNA/SanNav), not serial port, of course.

ps ExtremeNetworks.com site had a lot of documentation in public access at least a year ago, for each firmware version, for different tasks (l2, l3, admin, setup, specific cookbook).

So all CFG I loaded it serial port was wrong?

What did you mean?
You can config by serial or management, as you wish, - it doesn`t matter.

Hey Jason, would you have 7.1.0 and 7.3.0 ,, thanks
Unfortunately those are 2 I don't have. If someone else has them I'll certainly download them and keep them available. I have 7.4.0a and 7.4.1f along with the others in my post. I also have a really old 4.1.3d.
