the page you were following has instructions on how to put the license strings in a license xml file, then just import it and see if it says valid or not

Any of you guys know if it's possible to do multicast routing on 6450?

Since I configured my 6450 as L3 switch between my vlans I've had problems playing games that need portforwarding/upnp my pfsense box did this before, but since it's not in the same broadcast domain anymore it obviously doesn't work.

I was hoping to somehow get it working again, as I'd otherwise have to do manual pat for all the games that need it.

can you give me an example? Is your 6450 fully licensed? I guess they could be 6610+ only but I remember the 6450 datasheet specifically calling out multicast routing

Well...

device(config)# router pim
device(config-if-e1000-1/1/22)#ip pim

Don't work, but I'm not sure if any of the commands will show up when I can't even enable PIM.

Code:
(config)#show license
Index Lic Mode Lic Name Lid/Serial No Lic Type Status Lic Period Lic Capacity
Stack unit 1:
1 Node Lock ICX6450-PREM-LIC-SW -snip- Normal Active Unlimited 1
2 Node Lock ICX6450-10G-LIC-POD -snip- Normal Active Unlimited 2

well damn, guess it's only on the 6610 and up

So I've been lurking and learning and decided to grab some switches for playing around and helping with my network upgrade. I got an FCX648-E with the FCX-4XG module installed for a decent price and a ICX6430-C12 mainly due to being fanless (it will be in the house near the TV, etc.) I upgraded both of them thanks to @fohdeesha docs and tutorials. Neither seems to recognize when a transceiver is inserted, am I missing something in the setup process? I'm using Brocade 57-1000012-01 which should be 850nm mm/sr transceivers, my cables are OM3 MM

My plan was to have the FCX648 in my computer room with my unRAID server doing pfSense outputting to the FCX648 and uplinking over OM3 fiber to the ICX6430 in the main house where it can then handle VLAN/POE etc for the main house, leaving all the noisemakers in the detached office.
After a little more reading I decided to check the license record on the FCX648 and post it.
Any ideas, I'm willing to learn but a bit over my head here.
Thanks in advance

the icx6430 has no 10gbe, that's why it's not in my post. the SFP ports are SFP, not SFP+, so the 10gbE SFP+ optics you're putting into them indeed won't work

for the FCX, can you post the output of "show module" and "show media e 1/3/1" with a 10gbe optic in the first 10gb port

>show module
Module Status Ports Starting MAC
U1:M1 FCX-48G 48-port Management Module OK 48 748e.f821.f340
U1:M2 FCX-4XG 4-port 10G Module (4-SFP+) OK 4 748e.f821.f340

show media does nothing just returns to cursor with no message

I tried multiple sfp transceivers with the PN I previously gave and also a Finisar FTLX8571D3BCL that came with the switch.

The 6430 only being 1gbe capable isn't a big deal unless that means it can't negotiate with the FCX. I had noticed that in the specs but since my internet is only 1gig I figured it wasn't a deal breaker as long as they can communicate, guess I should have asked some questions before pulling the trigger. What started this whole mess is the need to run cabling between buildings and for it to be non-conductive, so I went down the fiber rabbit-hole.
Thanks

So I got my ICX 6610 switch and followed the directions and everything is up and running except for a couple issues.

1. The first 2 ports are not working at all. I plug in a network cable and the lights come on, but no connection to my router nor other devices.
2. I can't seem to get my Ubiquiti UAC-AP-Pro to work with the switch POE. I am thinking maybe my cable is crap so doing more testing, but what do the "class" levels mean with the inline power?

One other question I just thought of, is there a certain way people setup the switch port with which they connect their router to?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Josh

it will link with the fcx, but you'll need 1gb sfp modules to match on the fcx end, and in the fcx config you'll need to set that port to 1gbe (if i remember right that module will try and default to 10gbe). "show media e 1/3/1" with an sfp module in the first module slot returns nothing? even if the slot is empty, it should return empty:

Code:
telnet@FCX2>show media e 1/3/1
Port 1/3/1: Type : EMPTY

Just looked in the webui and it shows the four sfp+ as 1/2/1 - 1/2/4
A little syntax tweak and:

>show media e 1/2/1
Port 1/2/1: Type : 10GE SR 300m (SFP +)
Vendor: FINISAR CORP. Version: A
Part# : FTLX8571D3BCL Serial#: AKP0M1X
telnet@XXXXX>show media e 1/2/1
Port 1/2/1: Type : 10GE SR 300m (SFP +)
Vendor: BROCADE Version: A
Part# : 57-1000012-01 Serial#: UAA210111330792

So I just need to get some different optics so they will talk to each other, any good ones to get?

I should still be able to use two of the remaining 10gbe ports between my server and workstation as well once I find compatible cards to install.

there's a small chance that 10gbe add on card doesn't support clocking down to 1gbe, ive never tried. if you want to try:

enable
conf t
int e 1/2/1
speed-duplex 1000-full-master

Tried the optics again in the 6430

slave>show media e 1/3/1
Port 1/3/1: Type : EMPTY
Didn't like any of the Brocade optics I have (6 all the same PN)

slave>show media e 1/3/1
Port 1/3/1: Type : 10GE SR 300m ((SFP+))
Vendor: FINISAR CORP. Version: A
Part# : FTLX8571D3BCL Serial#: AKP0M1X
Did like the Finisar though

Looks like a no go on the downclock on the FCX:

telnet@XXXXX#conf t
telnet@XXXXX(config)#int e 1/2/1
telnet@XXXXX(config-if-e10000-1/2/1)#speed-duplex 1000-full-master
fail : port 1/2/1 is not a gig or cx4 port
telnet@XXXXX(config-if-e10000-1/2/1)#

So does this mean these two switches will not communicate over sfp regardless of optics? Or is it worth a shot to get a few 1G optics and try again? I'm a few days away from having the fiber run completed, glad I decided to try figuring out the connectivity before hand or I would have blamed the cables and that would have sucked after all the clay I've been digging through. Nothing like staying fit while on lockdown and learning networking to boot.
Thanks for all your help.
