I'm a HUGE proponent of getting all the parts ready for install and then deploying at once. I've got a laundry list of equipment that I have to replace and upgrade in my cabinet. I have next weekend set aside for this so I'll have most everything ready to go. Time is the one thing I do NOT have allot of and need to plan accordingly.

I already know that I have to:

1. Upgrade the switch to the latest firmware
2. Flash 3 cards
3. Install SFP's into the switch, verify all ports active.
4. Pray

Cabinet rebuild:

1. Remove old hardware and cables: 2 switches and a old desktop converted to server.
2. Rack TOR Brocade switch
3. Install/Upgrade Servers (New backup system, increase RAM in main system )
4. Cable everything up.
5. Turn devices on one at a time
6. Pray
Pray indeed! ;)

Thing with the all in approach is that you leave yourself open to mistakes... unless you've done the feasibility/planning/sign-off well in advance and know exactly what and why and how beforehand, which is not how we often tend to do things when it comes homelabs... the principle of taking the back seat now and again is more for those who are upgrading on the fly, it pays dividends.

If you had it all planned out well in advance then you're more than correct to race forward full steam... I cheer you on! I draw no judgement, just try to get my two cents in here and there where I can to help balance out a fellow technophobe's goals, we're all on the road, just in different cars with differing routes.

I like being in my Humvee whereas I know I'll not get there fast I will run over everything in the way and get there alive.

I've done quite a bit of research on these switches, cards, and networking. I'm running into nearly a week of replication from one system to another due to folks wanting more and more data and the data hoarding never stops :D

The brash bold and confident spirit of a traditional American... no such thing as the slow lane.
I will carefully tag along in your slipstream in my Mini with a few tanks of gas, cos you're gonna need juice very very soon in that guzzler. :p

I'm putting in a 40GB network in my house, there is absolutely nothing normal about this as it's massive overkill.

I'm honest in my insanity.

Interesting to note several people's comments on G-Electronic from eBay. I wasn't sure they would ship my 7250's to the UK since the description notes (somewhat emphatically) that they don't ship International (or APO/DPO).

But I received shipping info earlier...lets hope the packing is up to scratch

They offered to give me a partial refund if I'd keep the broken switches, there's like 4 ports minimum on each switch that aren't working.

One thing that confuses me is how one arrives at the optics part numbers from the official Brocade part numbers.

For example, referring to @fohdeesha's datasheet on the 6450, I see Brocade part number 10G-SFPP-SR (a 10GBASE-SR, SFP+ optic, LC, 300 m over multimode fibre optic).

And perusing STH that is equivalent to a Brocade 33011-000 transceiver....put where to those latter part numbers come from? I had a search thru ruckus but perhaps by search-fu isn't strong enough..

Can anyone enlighten me please?

Fingers crossed then...I can make up the GbE port numbers easily enough but like you I'd prefer the SFP+ ports to be intact!

I'm having a couple issues with my ICX6610-48P. I bought it on ebay a few months ago, but have only now just gotten it installed (moved to a new house, setting up network from scratch with the new switch).

First, the LED on one of the power supplies keeps cycling on and off and the log is filled with these messages:

Do I have a defective PSU? If so, does anyone have one they're willing to part with to replace it?

Seems like I have Rev A power supplies. Here's the info for the one that's working:

Power supply 2 (AC - PoE) present, status ok
Model Number: 23-0000142-02
Serial Number: 64K
Firmware Ver: A

Second, nothing happens when I plug in my Ubiquiti wireless APs. No link or PoE. I have 'inline power' enabled on the ports I'm trying to use, but that doesn't seem to have any effect. Is there some trick to getting PoE going, or do I possibly have a defective PoE board?

Does appear a defective PoE board, apparently they can be replaced, however there is another thread rolling in this subforum right now where the gent has put a new one in and his switch isn't getting past the bootloader.

I just found that thread. Not seeing any other error messages in my logs at the moment, but when I have a chance I will open it up and look at the PoE board.

Naturally, now that I've posted about a possible PoE issue, it appears to be working fine now. Still have the PSU issue, though.

These brocades are awesome, but they do run hot and need adequate cooling, I've got mine in my cold attic and it's still pushing around 54 degrees. PSUs fail, that's a given, easily replaceable, plugnplay... but thank goodness yours is fine :)

Drat, I was afraid you would confirm that. I guess I can contact the eBay seller I bought it from, but it was so long ago I doubt I have any recourse there.

Anyone have a 6610 PoE PSU they are willing to part with? :)

Not that I need it (I don't have separate feeds for them or anything; both of 'em would run off the same UPS), but it'd be nice to have.

6610's arrived this morning and I just experienced full fan speed startup. I don't think I'll ever complain about the noise level from a 6450 again. It looks like someone was using these to run infrastructure for a Cisco training operation, I find that really amusing for some reason.

they started as foundry, got acquired by brocade, then by ruckus, the part numbers for optics have changed about a thousand times over the last 10 years, I wouldn't worry about it. just search ebay for "brocade 10gb sfp", they'll all work. for instance: 10G-SFPP-SR - Brocade 57-0000075-01 10Gb 850nm SWL SFP+ XBR-000180 62xAvailable | eBay
