Found this thread and started looking at the 7250-48P on eBay and oh boy the prices have gone up. I only see them for $100 shipped approx. What's a good for these nowadays?
Yeah yeah try looking for a 48ZP in Australia (I would like at least 36 ports 2.5 and another dozen, plus 2+ 10Gb for uplink), I can't find anything under several grand right now.

Oh dang okay. That is crazy. I wish you could find these just as easily there! I also found a 7450 for USD $75 with sipping lol

Hey anyone else unable to log into the ruckuswireless support site?
I'm getting the "username or password incorrect" on login, but when I try to reset my password I get a "account does not exist" message. I know they were migrating something a few weeks ago (last time I logged in) so perhaps something went wrong there?

(thank god @fohdeesha hosts the docs for fastiron :D)

Searching through this thread I haven't got a clear answer. Should I go to 9.0 or stick with 8.0 on a 7450? I know 9.0 is a big change but is there any usefulness for it in a homelab environment over 8.0?

The author of this thread would be the authoritative recommendation. Look at what version he's included in the master ZIP.

I did see that but in other posts earlier this year they mentioned that 9.0 was fine now.

Would anyone happen to know if the (fairly recently released) v10.x series FW will run on the IXC6610 and the like? I have a few that need upgrades, so I thought why not on 10 while I am at it, if possible? Thanks in advance!

Realizing this is indeed a tangent, but the crowd in this thread seems quite knowledgeable, so...

Anyone "upgraded" to the subscription-based (Ruckus One?) for their WiFi APs? I have a couple of 750 I use, and I found this really informative article I had not seen before and wasn't aware there was even such a thing for their APs. Do you think it is worth it for homelab/personal use? If so, which reseller did you get it from? I have had one heck of a time finding someone who will sell the SKU and allow me to purchase and upgrade. Thanks in advance!

Link to the article I read:

Hello everybody, I've just registered on this forum but had this thread in a bookmark tab for some time.

For my home network I need to plug about 30 gigabit devices, 8 of which requiring PoE/PoE+ (Wi-Fi AP, intercom, etc.).
(other requirement is layer 3 features and CLI because that's how I want to configure it)

I could go with a 24 ports switch and a 8-12 ports PoE+ switch (giving a true total of copper ports, even if using copper uplink between them), but I got my hand on an Ruckus ICX 7150-48P.

Problem: The ICX 7150-48P is way too loud and gets quite hot in fanless mode (I can touch without pain, it but it's unpleasant).

I have yet to try replacing the 2 fans by Noctua NF-A4x10 (or Noctua NF-A4x20), but I see this thread says ICX 7250's fans can be modified/replaced to run even quieter/near silent.
Question: Is this also true for the ICX 7150? Even when powering 8 devices via PoE/PoE+?

If yes I'll keep my ICX 7150-48P (and be happy of the amount of port and the 1U it saves)
otherwise I'll try to get an ICX 7250-24 (or ICX 7250-48) and an ICX 7150-C12P (or ICX 7150-C10ZP, or Cisco Catalyst WS-3560CX-*P*).

Actual differences between ICX 7x50 series is not easy to spot for new-comers.

If your 7150-48P is way too loud in fanless mode, either it is not in fanless mode or you'll be better working as piano tunner and forget about homelabbing.
Fanless mode is OK for all 7150 series if you stay under 150W PoE consumption.
Once you hit the threshold, turn fans on or remove PoE load to stay below.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but 7250 series don't have this option.

IMHO 7250 are louder than 7150, and trickier to replace fans. I've got an 7150-24P which I used in fanless mode for some time, since the PoE load was below 40W, and it ran hot. I ended swapping the original fans for a pair of Artic S4028-6K, turn off fanless mode and call it a day.
This is all about trade-offs: silence, good temps, PoE load. You can only choose 2, as in RFC 1925 - 7a (corollary).

Apologies, my original sentence lacked punctuation and precision, it should have been:

Interesting, why did you ended switching back to "with fan" mode? Temperature finally got too high? Needed more PoE power?

I was worried about temps, but not 'cause they were too high.
Heat is one of the enemies of electronics, and I thought that it was better a poor airflow than no airflow at all. So searched a quiet PWM fan and installed it.
But in the unlikely event that I'll need >150W PoE, I'll have to put some other fans with more oomph

Hi all,
I added 2 x slim line fans into my 7250 and you can see the trace drop around 20C, it's been pretty good ever since. The install is a bit Heath-Robinson with a couple of thin zip ties but it's doing the job. I do have the quiet fans fitted but during our heat wave they were on for about 6 - 9 hours at a time, my ears couldn't take any more. Yes, they are teed off one header and I should have done off a second fan, but I didn't have another Y split cable. It's also a lot quieter as well.

The biggest pain was having to swap wiring round in the fan pins and Noctua splitter cables to match the Brocade wiring (reversed from standard). It took about an hour. I do have 2 * 140mm fans I'm going to install on a new lid I have made, but I need to get round to that.
Hope that helps someone.

You don’t actually have to do this. On the switch’s fan header you can carefully pull the plastic part straight up, pull it off of the pins, then spin it 180 degrees and reinstall it. Its fit is snug so you’ll probably need some pliers, and you need to be gentle just so you make sure nothing breaks. That’s it, no changes to the fan wires, everything lines up.

My modded ICX 6610 with three 120mm fans on the lid (cut open a large enough area) and some PWM trickery...is dead silent. Why? Because it has no PSU fans, no fan trays, just the three 120mm fans on the lid. Literally dead silent.

Code:
SSH@7250(config-vlan-33)#pvlan type isolated
Error: Cannot configure pvlans in single stp mode
SSH@7250(config-vlan-33)#show vlan 33
...
PORT-VLAN 33, Name [None], Priority level0, not in single spanning tree domain
...
Does this mean I would have to run mstp to get (isolated) pvlans? Or disable (r)stp?
