my fans were Nidec, but they were also black, yellow, green. I posted the pinouts. (note: the fans in that post aren't what I settled on).

Thanks! I'll give that a shot tomorrow and see what happens! If it works (with the temporarily spliced wires to old connector) Ill oorder some new tips and pin crimps and wire the 3 new ones properly. I ended up ordering the NMB-MAT 1608VL-04W-B69-B00 from digikey as per this post: https://forums.servethehome.com/ind...erful-10gbe-40gbe-switching.21107/post-278605

wish me luck that temps are ok with them...

I only use maybe 3 or 4 PoE items, the reset is just data

otherwise you know what you have to do :D

120mm that was used for cooling artic freezer II so with high pressure.
i can feel the cool air going out from everywhere :p
Lmao, I saw that post a while back and thought "Jesus I hope I don't have to do this haha, I got a patch panel right above it so I do technically have room, but I might want to resell this switch one day and don't want a giant hole in it lol

don't want a giant hole in it lol
the thing is that :
40 MM fan with turbo jet sound are around12 CF which match 20.39 m³/h
120 MM fan with high pressure are around 72 CF which match 121,8 m³/h
o_O

so it will be like 6 times more efficient at cooling. i used also the 12v from my banana pi so i don't have coil whine anymore at the same time ahaha

Oh trust me, I believe you, I run 140mm fans in my desktop and it's whisper quiet even under load but I don't want to mangle the switch for cooling lol, maybe if these fans don't end up cooling it enough.

Good news is, with the wiring suggested by @RoachedCoach, they are working! So now I just need to get crimp tips and 3 pin connectors from local pc repair shop and wire them up properly (see "safely") and then to do some testing. If it all works out, I'll be super happy and I can finally get rid of my old Cisco and get some 10g goodness to my Nas and servers

This is my second icx7150-c12p switch and I'm having some weird difficulty. On power on I'm getting an amber SYST light which means it failed at boot.

I am following fohdeesha's guide and am able to use the USB-C port to use the serial console and get into the boot loader, but it refuses to get the images from my TFTP server. It appears that the management port is dead, or at least appears dead, as connecting it to my other brocade switch doesn't turn on any of the activity lights. Neither does connecting it directly to my laptop via ethernet. I am definitely using the right OOB ethernet port (the one above the USB port). Any thoughts on what could be going on or how I can fix this?

Thanks!

Aparently theres a very simple exploit on what i presume to be the newer 09 FastIron WebUI. If you are worried just block anything that can reach it.
Its a denial of service type attack and basically prevents you from reaching the UI and makes operation ultra wonky, due to CPU being congested but the ASICS being fine

So I got 3 of the NMB-MAT 1608VL-04W-B69-B00 fans that were suggested in this thread and got them all wired in and they are running full blast no problem! Great!,But now I have a new issue, even though all 3 fans are working and they blow a ton of air, I keep getting and error in the usb console and it keeps rebooting:
FATAL ERROR: At least one good FRU fan should be present in the system
System is shutting down!!!

But there is 1 good fan, all 3 are good!

Does that mean Ill have to run one of the old ones :-(

Any help appreciated, I cant get it to stop rebooting itself

for the 6450, you have to normally switch 2 colors (1 & 3) because for odd reason they dont follow normal wiring schemes.

dunno if same for you

I did find that out and swapped the wires so I know they are getting power and they are blowing in the right direction. I can feel the airflow and see all 3 fans spinning. In fact I can hear them go full blast when I first plug it in (Speed 2) and then as I watch the boot process, they calm down to normal speed (Speed 1) and then as the boot process continues is when I see that error and it shuts down. I assume its because the fan speed on these replacement fans is around 9k RPM, and the originals are something like 18k RPM. Any ideas if I can fool the board into accepting lower RPMs?

Did you update the system? Recently had the same issue as i tried pushing a very very old version(2017) of my 7450 up to the latest version of 2025 of the same major update(08.x.x)
I had to revert to a very old version that was availlable on ruckus website and only then push it slowly upwards(then i realized i forgot to update the bootloader too as in the old version you have to update both the "firmware" and the bootloader)

You've got to be kidding, I need a bunch of integrated circuits and an oscilloscope just to tell this switch that the fans I got are running?

This might not have been the best purchase I guess... I just wish the stock fans weren't so bad with noise and vibrations, otherwise this switch is wonderful :(

I just figured there was a firmware or code way of telling it to ignore the fan speed unless temps hit x degrees.

Well I put 1 of the original fans back in and 2 of the new quieter ones and put it back in the rack and I can boot and use it because it sees the 1 original fan as working. Gonna let it sit idle for an hour and check temps. So far its at 66.5 deg-C and 23.5 deg-C so ill keep an eye on it and see how high I get with nothing really running. At least with only one of the original fans the sound is bearable from the next room.

I don't know why, but I have a Cisco 48p PoE switch 3750X I think and its never been this loud or piercing of a sound. Maybe its just that the Brocade ones are overkill or the Cisco switch has better thermal management I don't know.

Wish me luck that 1 original and 2 NMB-MAT 1608VL-04W-B69-B00 will be enough I guess lol

Get a Mellanox switch in that case. Software control of fan speeds... :)

From what I'm finding, they are all 10g, 40G and 100G or am I missing something? I just need 48p 1Gb PoE and about 4 10Gb SPF ports for my use which is why I went with the 7250 (and the price lol, I got one for under $100).

So far (45mins running at idle) I'm getting temps stable around 71.5 deg-C. Seems like this should be ok to start connecting some equipment and see how much more heat I get but I think around 71 deg should be safe enough.

Thoughts?

no I haven't, as I'm not not able to get a connection on the management port, so I can't upload any firmware

Hey folks, I tried searching this thread but didn't find the exact thing I'm running into. I'm following the doc on updating first in the bootloader but the tftp is failing partway through when updating primary. Any tips? Maybe a faulty NIC? The update_uboot worked properly but that could have been a fluke.

Code:
ICX7250-Boot> printenv
baudrate=9600
ipaddr=10.10.10.34
serverip=10.10.10.55
netmask=255.255.255.0
gatewayip=10.10.10.5
uboot=spz10118.bin
image_name=ICX7xxx/SPR08090mc.bin
ver=10.1.18T215 (Jul 13 2020 - 01:53:14)

Environment size: 191/16379 bytes
ICX7250-Boot> ping 10.10.10.55
Using bcmiproc_eth-0 device
host 10.10.10.55 is alive
ICX7250-Boot> update_primary
Updating PRIMARY image over TFTP
Using bcmiproc_eth-0 device
TFTP from server 10.10.10.55; our IP address is 10.10.10.34
Filename 'ICX7xxx/SPR08090mc.bin'.
Load address: 0x1000000
Loading: #################T T T T T T T T T T
Retry count exceeded; starting again
Edit: I played around with the timeout and resend values in tftpd and somehow it managed to complete! On to the next steps now.

Edit2: Just in case someone else runs into this, the values I changed were raising the timeout to 10s and number of retries to 15

I believe you should be able to put firmware on a USB drive and install it from there, but haven’t done so myself.
If this is a recent purchase, I’d see if it is returnable as not functioning if the MGMT port isn’t working though…
