You are running on an old old firmware version. If the device is able to get DHCP I would say the routing is good to go as you could not get a DHCP without it. I think your problem lies within OPNSense if I remember there is a setting where you need to specify in general or advanced settings the networks that are allowed to access the device. IIRC that creates the magic float firewall rules that would be above your allow all. I would add the two vlans to that.

I assume you also applied the firewall, vlan and all settings changes in OPNSense as that caught me a couple times.

@fohdeesha would love your brocade expertise here on what VOP-Sev1 means given that both @klui and I have switches with POE Modules in that status but at the same time have devices that pull POE off ports running off those modules. I have not had port flaps or anything like that as long as I can remember on my 48zp and 7250-24p before which I just checked also have VOP-Sev1 :)

Got a 6610-48P and looking for SFP+ and QSFP+ transceivers.. Also looking for the most cost effective way to do all this...

For 10G SFPP modules and QSFP modules (I'd like to get some official brocade ones, as my reading here suggests that Ill be able to get more stats/monitoring out of them):
"SFP/Optics Information
Brocade does not restrict the use of optics or DACs by manufacturer, they'll take anything given it's the right protocol. However by default, optical monitoring information is disabled unless it sees Brocade or Foundry optics.

So if you want to see information like this:

telnet@Route2(config)#show optic 1/3/1
Port Temperature Tx Power Rx Power Tx Bias Current
+----+-----------+--------------+--------------+---------------+
5 32.7460 C -002.6688 dBm -002.8091 dBm 5.472 mA
Normal Normal Normal Normal

You'll need to pick up some official Brocade or Foundry optics. Regardless of what optics you have, you'll first need to enable optic monitoring in general by running optical-monitor at the configure terminal level."

I see a lot of different models, once place I found says these are compatible:
Screen Shot 2025-01-26 at 9.36.36 PM.png

And was wondering about the differences with the extra dashes at the end?
Like the 10G-sffp-USR-E, and -SA, and was wondering if they are fully supported? according to the data sheet below they dont seem to be compatible (and was wondering if anyone had some real world experience):

Screen Shot 2025-01-26 at 9.48.48 PM.png
(Are the any benefits to using the shorter vs longer supported distance ones in a home network?)
I take it one wants MMF at a minimum?
I've also read you can use the 16gb sfp+ modules, but not sure the model number of those (are they fully supported)?

ref. link: https://andovercg.com/datasheets/brocade-ethernet-optics-family-datasheet.pdf

For QSFP+ modules:
the only one i've found in documentation that are supported are:
40G-QSFP -C-XXXXX (are their other options?)

If I want to run the 40G to PC's whats the best way to do this? With the Mellonox ConnectX-3 cards?
What QSFP+ should i look for to put in the pci Mellonox cards?

Am I limited to just the 2x 40G slots for this and can't use the other two breakout ports?

I am royally confused, most likely missing something totally obvious. I have decided to update the firmware of my ICX-6450-24P (and 48P) since apparently I was running an old firmware (and I didn't get into much configuration yet).

In following the instructions I was successful in updating the firmware, uboot, conducting a factory reset and resetting the device. I setup the basic vlan 1, interface ve 1, gave it an ip address, etc essentially finishing up the basic setup. The guide then tells me that I should start configuring the rest via in-line (1/1/1 for example) rather than the management port. Okay......... but how do I start configuring in-line IP when I cannot SSH into the device? I tried ssh root@<ip-address of ve1> and it asks for a password which I put in my old password before the factory reset to no avail. I try no password and it doesn't take. I must be totally missing something; is there a default password or how do I go about changing the root password? I'm confused on on the Advanced Page how it talks about setting up SSH and then says that I should be using in-line and already in the CLI. How do I get into the CLI in-line without setting up SSH first?

Also, since my units are POE I would like to update the POE firmware. I assume that I need to do this via the console cable and my tftp server in the management port??

In the guide directly after the Initial Configuration you completed there is section on updating the POE firmware and the section after that 'Further Configuration' explains what to do next. Yes you connect your switch to the network via a regular network port but you still continue the setup using the serial console as before.

I got an ICX7250-24P brand new in box, that i didn't get the chance to use it.

And now i come with the following question, can i reduce the idle power consumption?

I was thinking replacing the fans, will that improve the idle power draw?

No, well maybe but it will be marginal that probably no. ICX7250-24P is 50w. That is pretty low power usage for L3 switch.

@fohdeesha do you know what the "cdX" suffix means? I was checking the available firmware for a 7150-48zp and there is a "normal" version and then a "cd1" version of 10.0.10f.
And would you say the 10.0.10 (or 09.0.10) branch is okay for "dumb" l2 operations? :D

You can find the answer in the release notes. CD stands for "Continious Deployment" what according my understanding is a small update. So, CD2 is newer than CD1 and CD1 is newer than without CD.

This is a FastIron Continious Deployment (CD) release, which addresses a smaller number of issues than a single-letter patch release or a major release

A year of customers acting as testers/canaries and patches, it's pretty stable these days. Back then there were bugs as bad as "sometimes it will eat it's own flash"

Will the guide work for ICX7750? Have anyonw idea how much is ICX7750 power consumption?

Thanks
No need to unlock licenses. ICX7750 can run FastIron above 08.0.30 -> Honor based licensing like for all ICX7000 switches.

ICX7750 will use around 120W in IDLE doing nothing if I remember correctly (I had one but sold it).

Generally, I would avoid those switches. Prefer Arista 7050SX. Much cheaper, less weird hardware (ICX7750 has PowerPC and DDR3 SO-RDIMM, which are basically impossible to find)

I would like Arista, but don't have experience with them. How it is with Arista licensing? Also, I need 48x 10G RJ45, not SFP+. Do they have such model?

In any case, thanks for info about Brocade 7x licensing.

There is no licensing (its honor based) for Arista you can use everything without a worry.
