Just got a pair of 6450-48P switches (paid $150/ea, hope I didn't overpay...) and got them all setup. Wanting to reduce fan noise a bit but I'm a little overwhelmed by the varying suggestions and the age of most comments. It seems a good chunk of suggestions are working around shortages etc that I don't know exist any longer.

Is there a current go to fan that anyone could suggest? Should I replace all 3 in each switch?

OR

I see a reference to removing the fans entirely if I'm not using a full POE load. I'm only using 2 ports with POE, (1 af device, 1 at device).
Would I want to just unplug all of the fans? Leave one plugged in?
Should they be physically removed or does it matter?
What temps are acceptable in this situation?

Thanks!

@NablaSquaredG: Testing a 7150-24p but cannot connect to it via the console rj45 port. Using a blue cisco cable (rj45 -> db9 female, and trendnet TU-S9 male to USB-A). Did I understand your recommendation correctly from here?

Hu that's weird

So just to make sure: You're using the correct port (left one, which does not have lights?)
Baudrate 9600 (8N1)?

Cisco pinout is definitely correct.

Yes, that's the one I'm connecting to:

Baud Rate: 9600
Data Bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop Bits: 1
Flow Control: None

1. Are the 6450s worth buying in 2023? Would $150-200 be a good deal for one?
Got mine on ebay at $100 (best offer) + free shipping. You can search and send your offers.

24p would be more expensive but 48p should be cheap.

Is there a command for testing hardware on 08095 apart from "show chassis"? I would like to do a hardware test on all ports, including console port, and PoE health.

I still can't connect to it. I tried the console cable on an ICX-7150-C12P and it works, so it's not the cables.

Also, is there a way to view the current PoE firmware when the switch is in privileged mode? I want to know if it's been upgraded to the latest automatically.

I know it shows it on boot but can't see it right now due to the console connection issue above. Kinda confusing when upgrading since 08095 downloads come with the 'icx7xxx_poe_02.1.8.b004.fw' PoE upgrade file. Yet when I run

Code:
inline power install-firmware all <tftp-ip> icx7xxx_poe_02.1.8.b004.fw
I get the following notice:
Code:
PoE FW download on all Units already in progress.

Looks I missed it- For checking the PoE version, looks like it is "show inline power detail'. Still fuzzy on how ICX upgrades the PoE fw though. For example, 08095j comes with 'icx7xxx_poe_02.2.4.b002.fw', yet when installed, I only see:

When does the image auto-upgrade the PoE fw?

Thanks, to clarify most of the time it'll be about ~2-3 feet away from also, but i'm slowly talking myself into a 6610
If noise level is a concern, be sure to get one with a version "B" or "C" power supply. They made a version "A" power supply and it is louder than the other versions. There is a label on the power supply itself (which will need to be pulled out of the chassis to read), and the version is listed very clearly in the upper right corner of the label.

In my experience (on 71xx and 72xx devices) the PoE FW gets upgraded at boot time.

What's the current consensus on upgrading from 08095j -> 09010e? What does this mean in the Ruckus upgrade notes?
Code:
NOTE
If you are installing an ICX 7150 or ICX 7450 device that contains MCU PD69920, you can prevent the POE capabilities of the device from
being disabled by upgrading the stack to FastIron 09.0.10d or later firmware prior to installing the ICX 7150 or ICX 7450 device.
  1. How do you view what MCU version you have?
  2. What does prior to installing mean? Prior to configuring it i.e better to upgrade with a blank config?

How much did you nab the ICX7650-48ZP for, I've been wanting one ever since I've learned of it.
$1,040.00

There is one seller currently selling a lot of ICX7650-48ZP-E2 for $1200 + $70 shipping within USA. -E2 means: Two power supplies, two fans.

I think that's pretty solid price.. A couple of weeks (or months? but I think max 3 months) they went for $2000 - $2500 in auctions and that was considered a good price...

I've been eyeing that auction. I dunno if I can get wife approval for $1200 though, lol... I wonder how the fans are on them.

Anyway to script the 6450 ? It has no api that I saw and when I try to ssh into it using a script it gives me .
"Protocol error, doesn't start with scp!
Connection to *.*.*.* closed by remote host."
