This is probably a stupid question, but:

I happen to have some 8G FC Brocade SFP+ transceivers - 57-1000117-01 that are for Fibre Channel I presume.

Stupid question: Is it possible to use these in Brocade Ethernet switch 10G capable SFP+ ports (e.g. ICX6450) for an 8Gbps Ethernet Link?

To satisfy my morbid curiosity: Why? or Why Not?

Try it and see, it might work. I had some Finisar 8GB fiber modules and they would get a 10G link between a Broadcom 6450 and a Mellanox Connectix 3 card.

Just thinking out loud, I believe 10gbe is 64b66b encoding, while FC is 8b10b, making me think that the actual LED switching frequencies are pretty damn close...
