BPN-SAS3-826A-N4 backplane leds only flash when activity, no online leds?

Just wondering if this is the norm with this particular backplane. In the manual it doesn't say anything regarding online status leds so I'm assuming that this is one of those backplanes that shows no carrier led lights unless there is activity or an error.

Would I be right in this presumption?

In my experience, only SAS drives light the online status light. SATA drives do not.

It is sas drives, no lights other than activity. IBM x-M4/M5 series were the same in that only drive activity would trigger leds, maybe it is just this particular backplane series as the expander one of this same range doesn't have online lights too. (scratching chin heavily)
