Anyone have links to any deals yet?

Personally I'm looking for 1tb SATA 2.5 inch SSD for a NAS build, yes committed to 2.5 inch and SATA at this point. Hoping to get under $45usd for something decent enough for a lab.

I've built a couple of systems in the past around this time of year and it's usually been a wash for prices before / during BF. Sites markup their stuff prior to BF and then knock them down to be more appealing as a % off. If you do a price tracking like camelcamelcamel / honey you can see the game play out.

1tb SATA 2.5 inch SSD
Just go on ebay or craigslist. Most of these even used have tons of life left on the nand. No need to stress over catching the best deal.

The Eco Flow deals look pretty good to me. I was thinking of using one as a UPS. Good idea or Bad idea?
I would like any opinions on this also, I have ”refurbished” a bunch of APC Smartups with LiFePO4 packs but balancing is an issue, none have worked out 100% ad expected

I might be wrong but I don't think they can work as a true UPS, in terms of having a connection to the computer and telling it to turn off when running out of battery. It only works as a dumb battery. Which may or may not be ok, depends on what you want.

1tb sata ssd 2.5". Not what I would buy, but at $46, a good deal.
Personally, I buy used micron enterprise sata ssds. I have a 960gb mlc drive and two 7.68tb tlc drives.

I was looking at used Micron Enterprise drives last night, that might be something to get. But I've been using a lot of consumer level stuff in my lab lately, so I may end up with new consumer stuff. I do have a bunch of spinning drives I can use while I look, some of the parts are due today and the mainboard on Monday. Might have it running Tuesday or Wednesday. Haven't decided if I'm going to document the build yet, but there is a thread in the DIY section if anyone is interested.

I got an email that Udemy is having their sale now, $9.99 for select courses. Going through a couple of VMware courses right now that seem to be OK, bought them under a different sale for a few more dollars.

I too am considering one of these. A dumb battery is a fine option for me, I don't need to shutdown my servers if the power goes out. I just need enough battery reserve to survive the average outage.

I'm currently using some cheap rack mounted CyberPower UPS and they can be USB connected to my servers but I don't even do that. I just use them like a dumb battery backup in one of my racks. My other rack however has no UPS at all. If a circuit breaker pops or if the power goes out, all the servers in the rack get hard stopped, which can be really time consuming to deal with.

Maybe we should start a new thread

That hadn't crossed my mind. Seems like they're working on it though:

Power Manager:
Monitor the battery level of your power station, ensuring it acts as an uninterrupted power supply (UPS) for key equipment. Receive alerts when the battery is low.

I think you need to look into the transfer time of these battery packages and see if it's appropriate for your equipment.

It looks like some of them have gotten faster since I last looked into it. Still, they may not even be usable as a "dumb" UPS, depending on your needs.

Not seeing great deals from Newegg yet, and Amazon deals are just what they had on sale last week with a new badge.

Eh, bought a bunch of Seagate Skyhawk AI 8TB NAS drives at 180 USD each to replace a bunch of HGST 6GB for the ol' N40L, probably cycle the 6TB drives down to a dual bay NAS for the missus. Don't really see much that appealing this year to be honest. Yeah, ex-Enterprise gear is almost always where the deals are.

Amazon is throwing around coupons for M4 Mac Minis. I got the base model for $500.
16GB/256GB, and even though the SSD is supposedly modular/replaceable (dosdude1 pulled one apart to do a module NAND flash swap), but not sure how it'll work with 3rd party vendors later on. An M4/16GB/1TB model with AppleCare+ is 1200, which is a bit of a tall ask, and a 24/1TB is 1400. It's a nice little machine though.

My N40L has sat idle for 5 years now. What software are you using on it?
TrueNAS Core - although that's partly because my current hypervisor (HP t740 connected via 40Gbit iSCSI running ESXi 6.5) is on it. Once I migrate the VMs out of the t740 it'll be strictly for NFS/CIFS. I might migrate it out to TrueNAS scale but we shall have to see...
