Weeelll.. Not many good answers there @mimino. Maybe you cant run SAS. Maybe the HC510 is not new and/or out of warranty.
But in any case the SAS drive is better in all ways except power consumption. Perhaps noise also. Hmm.. that became a better list than i intended.

Wait. Its 12TB also ;)
It's also $20 more expensive, requires shucking, may turn out to be SMR, and is in a different league altogether. Never been attracted by these drives personally.

Aren't some users reporting finding shingled drives in some of these? Honestly I think WD feels free to just put whatevs in these enclosures, whereas when it comes to the Reds they have a published spec to uphold.
8TB and greater aren't Shingled, according to WD

Correct,
8TB and greater aren't Shingled, according to WD
Correct.

The issue was with the 4TB and 6 TB Reds, which aren't available capacities in the BestBuy / WD exclusive EasyStore series... I've shucked more than twelve of these [8, 12, 14 TB] drives over the past few years, and they've all been good [and NOT SMR]......

12 TB WD EasyStore is on sale at BestBuy @ $189.99 USD. [$179.99 is the lowest I've ever seen it]

They also have the 8 TB at $129.99.... [lowest I've ever seen is $119.99]

The deals on the 10 and 14 TB models are not as good... :-(
For easy reference:
12TB = $15.83/TB
8TB = $16.25/TB
14TB = $18.57/TB
10TB = $18/TB

Difference between the 12TB on sale and the 14TB that's not? $2.74/TB. So you're only really talking about $42 max difference. Something to think about if you don't want to buy these just because they're on sale. ;)

I generally only buy them when they are on sale near the historic low price [which I keep a spreadsheet to track... ;-) ], as shown below:

Lowest ever* WD Easystore BestBuy.com prices [as of July 2020]

The 12TB was briefly on sale for $175 sometime last month at Bestbuy, Newegg and Amazon.

Okay, these are driving me nuts--I know where there are some seagate open box enterprise 12TB sas drives for 188+shipping. That's a ridiculous $15.67/TB but for enterprise 5yr warranty, 7200rpm, 2M mtbf, sas goodness. PM me if interested and I'll send you the link. They'll be gone in 2 days for sure.

Is the Seagate Exos at CDW Outlet the hard drives? The price looks good, but considering Seagate's failures at Backblaze, I am concerned about their reliability.

If Seagate’s not your thing, the CDW outlet also has a handful of 12TB WD HC520 SAS drives for $192.
Last night, I placed an order for seven Seagate Exos as that was all I could place in my online cart. I receive an order number via e-mail, but there was not an order found when I would periodically check the order's status against my zip code at CDW's website, so I called them the following day.

CDW said that it was unusual for someone to order such a large quantity of disk to a residence, so I verified my address, billing information, and shipping account number.

Here's the kicker: Since I did not get an even number of disk, I asked for one more to make it eight (whereas I really needed 12) -- it turns out that only FOUR is available -- I took the four anyway, because I could drop them in a 1U 3.5 X 4. To my dismay, the rep gave me the impression that he was not ever going to state that all of the order could not be fulfilled until I had asked for an additional disk.

Well, I decided to login to CDW to only find out that my account is disabled without notice, yet I am suppose to contact them? It's unacceptable, especially when my card has a pre-auth.

CDW has wasted enough of my time, so I'm going to cancel the order and go a different route.

Hopefully other folks have better luck.

Best Buy has these on [a weak] sale again (both online and on their eBay store)

8TB - $135 ($16.85/TB)
10TB - $170 ($17.00/TB)
12TB - $220 ($18.33/TB)
14TB - $260 ($18.57/TB)

Historically this isn't great, but I did get a 5% eBay Bucks this morning that's good for until the 26th.

Do you (or anyone) know if the 10TB EasyStore’s are being stuffed with air-filled drives (WD101EMAZ) instead of Helium (WD100EMAZ)? I saw that was the case for the Elements line, and these are essentially the same, so thought I’d better ask for any first-hand experience.
