So I built my first DAS that connects to a LSI 9201-16e HBA card in my PC using mini SFF 8088 cables. I turn on the DAS using the pc power supply on off switch as I've jumpered the 24 pin ATX connector.

It's my first time using an external drive array so I'm wondering how do I safely shutdown my system in case I need to do some troubleshooting and not screw up my expensive hard drives.

I'm using Windows 10 so can I just shutdown my PC and then switch off the DAS using the pc power supply switch?

Also, does the LSI 9201-16e HBA card support hot swapping? And will it be able to take the power saving commands from the Windows 10 PC to spin down drives that aren't being used?

Thanks!

Stop all apps that are reading/writing to the DAS
Do a filesystem sync
Unmount filesystems on DAS
Shutdown server
Power down DAS

Windows should do all of this for you.
