Hello,
I am going to buy Supermicro A+ Server 4124GS-TNR with dual Epyc 7H12 (TDP of each CPU is 280W) and GPUs. I am worry about cooling CPU.According to Supermicro the server has SNK-P0064AP4 heatsink which support CPU with TDP up to 180W (see Supermicro SNK-P0064AP4 4U Active CPU Heat Sink For AMD EPYC OLGA4094 SP3 Socket ). The server is intended for intensive calculations and effective cooling is crucial . Could you recommended any better heatsink for such server?

Well, Noctua claims compatibility of NH-U14S TR4-SP3 with TR 3960x/3970x which are both 280W TDP CPUs so you may give it a try...

The last time I checked, most of the Noctuas won't fit in a 4U server. Also, the Noctuas are set for top/bottom airflow (not front to back as you would want in a 4U server chassis).

Indeed, looks like I've pretty badly read original question. Thanks for correction!

Noctua has coolers for that socket which fit into 4U: Noctua NH-U9 TR4-SP3
But the issue remains, they want to push air perpendicular to the overall airflow in that case.
And certification for 280W CPUs is still pending, the TR 2990WX at 250W is currently the top end. But then again, Adding 30W extra is not too much of a stretch.

like @alex_stief says: the direction of airflow with noctua-tr4-sp3 coolers are perpendicular to pci-e slots. those noctua coolers are actually designed for desktop cases where airflow is parallel to pci-e slots.

in server rack case you mostly have air shrouder which leds the airflow from mid-plane fan-wall, over the cpu passive cooling blocks.
and don't forget that air-shrouder is also cooling cpuvrm which can get really hot (100°C) with 7H12 at 100% full load

I've not been able to get the "single tower" Noctua into a 4u case -- it's a little too tall.

The D15 is a little shorter and will just fit in a 4u, as well as offering more cooling, but I'm not sure if they have an SP3 socket version.

In terms of size, this one should fit:

Noctua claims compatibility with 250w TDP CPUs and recommends, for those, a second fan to improve boost clocks. So, 280w probably will work with a second fan.

Specs are 158mm tall so it should just barely fit a 4u case. The D15 is 160mm and I can (uncomfortably) get it into a 4u case, while the U14S is 165mm tall and definitely does not fit.

I'd be skeptical of using their 92mm fan cooler for a CPU with that much power draw.

FYI - the Noctua heatsinks on Epyc will have the fans blowing up and down. Most servers have a front-back air flow setup.

there is a solution altho it is a very very noisy one but it worked for the 3990x
using the nhu9s tr4 with a Delta PFR0912XHE-SP00 fan but you have to create a second power source for the fan that trigers when you turn on the machine
warning this solution is noisy the fan draws 55w which is why it requires a secondary power source do not plug it in your motherboard it can fry it
it pushes over 160 CFM
it will sit comfortably in your 4u case

Dynatron A35 is rated 280w with 3800rpm fan (68.4 CFM).
280W is typical for ordinary graphic card with dual slot blower-type cooler having far worse CFM rating
they actually do say it can dissipate 280watts while i never tried it i am not really sure if it can do that with 3990x or 3970x as they dont have the heat core at the center of the IHS but more to the sides and the heatsink is lighter and with less heatpipes than the nhu9

Anyone know how the Dynatron A35 compares to the Supermicro 4U Active CPU Heat Sink Socket OLGA4094 (SNK-P0064AP4)?

as ive said i havent tried the dynatron but i did try the super micro and it was nearly as if it wasnt there on the 3960x it would immediatly hit 80 -85 and throttle down then in less than a min it the system would auto turn off it was a waste of money
