Just had a second Supermicro SAS2 backplane screw the pooch. It's a BPN-SAS2-846EL1. Mode of failure is drives start dropping out at random. A reboot brings them back.
Several months ago I lost one in another chassis, same model, and it died completely, no drives detected at all.

Is there a common failure component on these backplanes? are they repairable?

TIA

Sorry to hear about that! Check the Molex power connection? 8087 cables? HBA? Do the drives work fine bypassing the backplane, e.g. using 8087-4x8482 forward breakout cables? Try the faulty backplane in another chassis?

Drives are fine. I put them in another chassis and no problems.

The first one that failed completely I replaced with a eBay one. The second I replaced with a spare SAS backplane which is a less than ideal solution.

I still have both backplanes so now I'm looking for a fix.
