FYI this affects Vail Too

Jonas Svensson -HSBS-
Thanks for taking the time to test Windows Small Business Server
“Aurora†with us. As is the case with most betas, the trial period
for “Aurora†is limited in nature. The public preview for “Auroraâ€
will expire on January 10th, 2011.

On this date, public preview versions of “Aurora†will no longer be
functional and we will not release a patch to extend the preview
period. If you have important data on your “Aurora†server it is
recommended that you migrate the data to another location.

It is our plan to offer a new beta version in about 4 to 6 weeks.
Once the new beta is available we will announce it here and on our
team blog.

Thanks again for all your help testing
“Auroraâ€!

I am very surprised with the way Microsoft is handling all of this. It would have been a big win to get it wrapped up by Nov/ Dec 2010, especially since this is built upon Windows Server 2008 R2 and not some new platform.

Yea i guess....but the problem all stems from the File system issues. They were trying something new and it didnt work out as expected. Same thing happened w/ Vista(longhorn) and WinFS.

Personally I am glad that MS is taking its time to ensure that its right and hopefully we will not see corruption issues like we did w/ WHS v1.
For a WHS (fileserver) the file system is pretty damn important.

There is no reason to rush it because it isnt a new platform and currently Aurora w/out DE is no different than the current version of SBS or 2008 R2 for that matter.

I wish MS would have a separate FS team and could separate the FS from the OS code as much as possible. This would make a FS more portable between OS and could possibly get better features.

If we could get ZFS/flexraid view hybrid FS for windows with block-level dedupe that would be badass.
