I'm trying to make a QUIET and tower-based server for my house, which I am hoping to keep on a budget as well. Right now I have:
Supermicro X8DTL-3F motherboard
2x Intel L5639 CPU
24Gb DDR3 10600 ECC RAM
5x WD Se 3Tb drives
4 port Intel i350 NIC
IBM M1015 HBA
I want to put it all together into a quiet ATX tower case, preferably with hot-swap so I can see drive failure indications, and keep it next to my desk. I am also concerned with power usage but haven't seen a E5 system I can gut and do this with (just yet).
My other concern is cooling - I have the stock Supermicro 1u heatsinks on it, but do not know if there's an option for adding a fan - or if I just need to spring for a LGA1366 compatible cooler and hope I don't run into spacing issues.
