Hi all,
I've found the following mainboard: Asus WS C422 SAGE 10G
It has 8 SATA-ports and two U.2-ports with SFF 8643 connectors.
In two 5.25" slots of the chassis I want to use an ICY DOC bay for up to 8x 2,5" SATA-SSDs.
(ToughArmor MB508SP-B). This bay has 2x miniSAS HD (SFF-8643) ports.
In order to avoid an HBC-Card, I want to put 8x 3,5" HDDs to the 8x SATA-ports and now the big question:
Is it possible to connect the 2x miniSAS HD ports of the ICY DOC backplane to
the 2x U.2 ports of the mainboard?
Physically I think it's not a problem, but can U.2 "understand" the SATA-Drives of the miniSAS HD backplane?
(I know that U.2 can do much more in speed than SATA...)
