Even with planning for a Godlike build, it was always going to be a prod-oriented system. I do my limited gaming on the PS5 and haven't really cared for PC-based games since....Unreal/Hexen/Quake/Doom. The Godlike/SAGE build is for astrophotography (Adobe Lightroom, etc), home security cams/storage, and minesweeper. The SAGE will give me untold amounts of headroom that i'll never be able to utilize, but that's not the point. Why do ppl climb mountains? Because they're there...

BTW, one IS greatly tempted and would DM you yesterday, but one unfortunately cannot pull any triggers until Xmas time

For even more scope-creep fun, I've been exploring the options of using the SAGE as the basis for my NAS build, because eff it :D

It just never stops...

At least these aren't cars or boats. Do I need to be able to go 80-130+ to 80 in <4s? No! Do I want to? YES!!!
Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it ;)
"Cuz" also works

I'm also in the process of building a HiPo 32v V8 (600+ BHP) for my Mustang, so yeah either/or works for me

Congrats to those that got a board, and no I don't get any commission from Asus lol just glad the word got spread

Cheers

It was sure hard to not press the buy button on this. As sad as it sounds, if the Xeons had an i-gpu, I'd be all over it. Plex transcoding with intel gpus has been so good lately. I'll have to stick with the 13900t for now, although the extra ram slots and pcie lanes would have been great.

I'd just buy Intel Arc A310 :) Would take one slot, but there is a plenty of PCIe lanes available.
Sadly, the performance on a dedicated intel GPU isn't the same since it can't use system ram. Having said that, I've been planning on throwing my 4070 ti super into the server for a steam gaming system at some point. Maybe I should have bought this lol.

A310 should be enough for Plex transcoding though. And if you need dedicated GPU - Arc 770 is still way better than any iGPU Intel have in desktop CPUs. Or you then can go for something else, e.x. buy RTX A4000 or some tesla GPU and stream.

Maybe I should have bought this lol.
Gaming performance of 13900k would be still better than of similar Xeon W (and even better if you'll try to use lower clocked Xeon ESs here). It's main advantage is an ability to have more than 8P+16E cores (and you'll have P cores only) and A LOT of I/O even if you use server Xeon ES and lose half the PCIe slots.

The A310 would be enough for a few streams which should be fine, but it's more about the ram that matters when it comes to the number of transcodes you can do. I didn't know the server Xeon ES chips would lose 1/2 the pcie slots. I guess that makes everything a non-starter for me since I was eyeing the ES CPUs. Thanks for the heads up there.

Not half, just 2 slots. People in https://forums.servethehome.com/index.php?posts/431071/ mentioned that 2 out of 3 M.2 doesn't work (like with W-2400 CPU), and 2 PCIe slots doesn't work (you still have one x8 and 4 x16 slots though). Both SlimSAS should continue to work without any problems.

So that is not that major loss.

If you need all of them - ask RolloZ170 if he sold his Xeon W QS, with it all slots would work (6 x16 and 1 as x8, all 3 M.2 slots and SimSAS would work)
