I updated the firmware of my ASMB9-IKVM module. After the update, the IPMI now has two IP adresses as shown in my router.

The IPs are pingable and also working via HTTP. But I can't login.

I have tried everything: BIOS update, remove the power plug... It is not working at all.

are you sure you flashed the correct firmware to ipmi (i.e specifically to your board)?

Had a similar issue when I flashed a wrong one (since I though it was like supermicro where most boards of a cpu line have compatible ipmi fw's)

First step is to try to flash correct FW from DOS
dont think that will do, didnt on mine

Contact support and ask for a tool called socflash

I have also tried that. It said: "Please connect BMC" I don't think thats a good sign. The BMC is also not detected via IPMITOOL

Can't remember if I had the same issue.

If you can I'd contact support, at least here in Germany they were quite helpful (Pro support that is, workstation board)

PLEASE NOTE: Socflash will delete the MAC Addresses of the ASMB9 Module.

So MAC Addresses need to be re-write after flashing the Firmware.

Thus, please check in BIOS first for BMC MAC Addresses and note them.

--> BIOS / Server Management

1. Prepare the flash drive:

Unzip attached tool and copy this folder to USB DOS bootable flash drive.

Copy latest ASMB Firmware file *.ima into the folder on the USB stick where you copied the tool before.

3. Boot up the Server

Start the Server and Boot DOS from your previously prepared flash drive.

4. When Server booted into DOS, Set BMC Jumper BMC_EN1 back to [Enabled].

5. Firmware flashing.

Run: x:\>socflash.exe PAU12151.IMA OLD.IMA

Wait until finish, it will take about 5~10 Minutes

6. Rewrite Mac, finish flashing.

ASMC8.exe -bmc_mac 123456789A10
ASMC8.exe -bmc_mac_lan1 123456789A11
ASMC8.exe -kcs 18 02

If MAC rewrite does not work, shut down the System, unplug power and repeat step 4 again.

After flashing, shut down the Server.

Disconnect power from system for 2 Minutes.

Reconnect power to Server and wait until BMC Heartbeat LED start flashing (Take about three minutes).

Restart Server.

O/c you need a different bios.

Whether you should try is up to you, if you have a board under warranty its better to open a case first

if not, then i assume there is not much to loose

I'm getting the error: "The BMC is protected, skip to update firmware image!".

What is that?

I can already see where this is going.. RMA... I wonder if its the actual AST2500 that is bricked or the ASMB9 module?

I better throw this 200 euro piece of garbage away. Nothing is working and it's Friday so no support.

It turned out that the problem was caused by the ASMB9-iKVM module. I bought a new one and it's working again. NO MORE SOFTWARE UPDATES

very good, probably that contained the wrong FW :)

Be glad it was not built into the board:)

Yes and I think you could reflash these ASMB9 chips or borrow the motherboard that is compatible with the flashed firmware and flash the working one on it.

I’m having a similar issue with the same main board and iKVM module. I’ve flashed the latest firmware (directly from Asus‘ download section, specifically for my mainboard P11C-11).
Before flashing, the iKVM worked without issues and I had created my own user and changed the password for the admin account.
Now neither of the credentials work, also the default account (admin/admin) doesn’t work. I only upgraded the firmware, hoping the remote screen capture would finally be fixed.
I appreciate any ideas or suggestions... Thank you!

Try to use ipmitool on Linux. First install it and then type ipmitool lan print 1

If you get an error that says: "Can not open device at /dev/ipmi0" the ASMB9 is probably dead.

In my case I flashed the wrong firmware on it. Maybe you are lucky and it's just because of the update.
