The sample motherboard has been fighting me a bit which is totally understandable given it is a sample not a production part. Will do some troubleshooting this weekend.

If you believe the scarce documentation available up to now that is not a 4 pin CPU connector on the Supermicro board. It is an alternatine 12 V power connector for a separate power supply when the ATX connector is not in use.

Any more news on these boards (price, release date, test results)?? Really interested in getting on of these for a FreeNAS build.

What's happened to this board? It's mid October and not even a sign of pricing, let alone availability.
How about FreeBSD compatibility? (FreeNAS)

From what I have heard I would expect the C2750 version to come out in a few weeks with the C2550 version trailing by a bit more. Expect a review this week on the main site.

This looks very promising. I'm looking to butcher my Norco 2U case and tuck 2 mITX boards into it as a dense ESX lab. I don't need the huge amount of SATA ports but the onboard NIC's come in handy.

Pro's for these boards against an Ivy Bridge mITX setup:
- Less power
- More NIC's onboard. Saves a PCIe slot for possible IB or FC card.
- Higher max RAM. (64GB vs 16GB)

Pro's for the Ivy Bridge mITX against this board:
- More power for ESX
- Possibly cheaper
- Cheaper RAM.

The ASRock boards use essentially the same ECC UDIMMs as Ivy Bridge Xeon E3 and Core i3 parts. Same number of NICs as your average server motherboard.

Am doing a project you may enjoy this weekend based on mITX boards. :)

Also - for those wondering, just got the last major kink fixed for the BMC (this is a pre-production sample so expected that firmware is not going to be 100% ready). Review incoming!

Patrick, can you check cpu flags for EPT support? Intel doesn't list it on the CPU ARK page but in C2000 datasheet here VT-x2 is mentioned as in VT-x + extensions and one them being EPT.

While we're making requests, I'm curious if the power consumption numbers for the ASRock board are different than the similar SuperMicro board? With the CPU/SoC itself having increasingly small power draw, the other random components on the board will have a bigger and bigger effect on overall power draw.

Patrick, do you happen to have one of those infrared temperature probes? I'm curious how hot the passive heatsink on the ASRock board gets when fully loaded. This board looks absolutely perfect to mate with the U-NAS NSC-800 for a truly DIY Synology-type NAS. Just wonder if it will get too hot.

And a totally weird request that i do not expect you guys to do at all but will still ask.
Those mobo's are the only ones so far with the 8 core atom chips and at higher clock speeds than the normal atom chips, no1 else seems to review these chips and to me it seems very interesting to see how they compare to the modern consumer/server line chips. The question is how well would those do in a HTPC/NAS combo that has a dedicated graphics card to play some games? Basically could be the lowest power idle htpc/nas with optional gaming.
Of course that would be way out of your normal testing suite so I hardly expect an answer to it but it would be kinda cool to see

Dang, I am really starting to get anxios about this. I want to get my build going.
Still no pricing information on these boards, and the supermicro board has shown up for cheaper then expected.

Does anyone know if the supermicro board boots with FreeNAS?
