Yes but core does not have ECC support, does it?

There's X12SCZ-F which is w480 but i think that particular board does not support 11th gen. Could be fine for you depending on your workload. Overkill for me tbh but i made an impulse purchase of the asrock board.

Got an offer for € 98,10+ shipping Supermicro X12SCZ-F Motherboard - micro ATX HD Audio +Netzteil +CPU Kühler | eBay.de
Just a small word of Caution for X11SCZ-F and very likely X12SCZ-F: you CANNOT update BIOS via IPMI Web Interface. I cannot even remember if it was possible to update BMC via IPMI Web Interface ...

Not a problem per se (just Boot a FreeDOS LiveUSB Drive), but something to keep in Mind.

And yeah, launching the BMC Firmware Update from FreeDOS was a "Push and hope" kind of Thing, since you cannot see anything that is going on until the BMC reboots basically. Maybe it was similar for the BIOS Update too, I don't remember.

Shouldnt the Bios update be possible via license? I dont have one so never checked, but thats how it was on the older models.
An option to update the IPMI FW is present (on the X12SCZ at least)

Re generation support: The webpage says
11th/10th Generation Intel® Core™ i9/Core™ i7/Core™ i5/Core™ i3 Processor, Intel® Xeon® W-1200 Processors
**The X12SCZ does not support the Intel 10th/11th generation processor 2M cache SKUs. These processors will not boot with the latest BIOS version.

So limited Gen 11 compatibility only

Depends on the board revision and the phase of the moon: https://forums.servethehome.com/ind...compatibility-10th-11th-gen-vrm-update.52154/

Keyword is should.

I remember there was a list somewhere I found online of Supermicro Motherboards that, despite having IPMI, do NOT support BIOS update via IPMI Web Interface (even with Supermicro Out-Of-Band Management License installed).

I cannot seem to be able to find that now  .

Maybe it was also possible via SUM (Supermicro Update Manager), it's been too long ago since I did it. I'm almost sure it was on a X11SCZ-F Motherboard and it was definitively a "WTF ?" Moment, since for all other X9/X10/X11 Motherboards I could update via IPMI Web Interface (provided License was activated and there were no IPMI Web GUI Bugs preventing it).

EDIT 1: I don't remember if this was due to a Chipset Limitation or the BMC Controller (or the Way in which it was wired up)

I bought one of these from US Ebay from a seller in Netherlands. It doesn't come with an IO shield, but you can buy it for $8 from Asrock support. They were $125, but they upped them to around $150 now. I think its a good deal if you have supporting parts. I already had a compatible CPU and UDIMM ECC, so no brainer for me.

It's the same seller but i got 2 boards for 75 each.

I have ECC UDIMMs but i don't have a CPU. Hopefully a cheap one will show up.

Do you know if I can access BMC without a CPU?

I'd guess so. Anecdotic evidence but when I had some CPU Isuses on a Fujitsu TX1320 M3 with a (supposedly) fried CPU, the management interface worked anyways.

As long as the Motherboard has an indipendent BMC and probably NIC (not these Intel AMT or whatever it's called) with something like an AST2400/AST2500 it should be accessible.

What do you want to do without CPU though ?

Just make sure the board can power up and not DOA. I know it's not a 100% guarantee but it's what I can do.
Whatever that means.

You will only be testing that the BMC works effectively.

No test of BIOS. No test of Memory. No test of CPU. No test of Video.

Too bad the cheapest xeon E-2300 is 200.
That still leaves the total well in line line with a 200+ € E3C246D4U2-2T and a dirt cheap Core i3-9100, or even possibly a ca. 100 € E-2100.

Oh wait! Maybe I should quit too.

E3C246D4U2 has the igpu advantage but the 10G disadvantage. (x550 vs x710)

Welp, mine wont post. Tried multiple good PSUs, moved the ram into every possible config, reseated cpu, cleared CMOS, it just won't post. With and without GPUs. At this point, I only have ATX 24-pin and CPU 8-pin and won't come on when I trigger the the power button. I get a green light on the ATX Power Input and a flashing light near the BMC. No fans ever spin. The 10Gb NICs flash quickly when power is applied.

I am still waiting for my CPU thus have not tried mine.

Perhaps you can try powering it on via BMC/IPMI? Does that make a difference?

I don't think it's the RAM but maybe try with none ECC and see how it goes?

I only have UDIMMs in ECC right now. I can't access BMC. I get nothing on VGA output and the IPMI doesn't seem to get an IP to connect to.

I ordered a cheap single dimm and a cheap pentium G cpu to test out with.
