Here someone successfully used a 2200G on the board. So "APUs are not supported" means you can't use iGPU, but the board will boot with G series.
He tells that for onboard VGA to work at boot time UEFI mode must be selected in BIOS. Appears that BIOS default is not UEFI mode.
I stand corrected, the (original) supported CPU list does indeed mention Ryzen 2xxxG series support.
This is interesting! Yes, the original supported CPU list does include G-sku’s for 2000-series, but without graphics actually working. I mean, how could it if the Aspeed is the GPU?
Then maybe, MAYBE, that could mean that 5000-series APUs would also post!? Just without the graphics…

some convincing hints in a youtube video from the Der Bauer a while ago might indicate these boards come from Hetzner, or at least are the same as were used by them. The AX41-nvme seems to be this AsRockrack B450D4U-V1. they seem to use pcie nvme risers (also shown in video)

You can check the video here at 14:13 (the top server) -> Over 200,000 Servers in One Place! Visiting Hetzner in Falkenstein (Germany)

Another link is in the Linux hardware database referring to Hetzner 'desktop' -> linux hardware org
So quite a worrying sign given the issues reported @hmartin :(

They were only explicit about NO 4000 Series Support in latest BIOS.

EVERYTHING else is up for Interpretation really ...

EDIT 1: actually there are SOME (very FEW) Supermicro Motherboards that I know of (on the Xeon E3 Family) where, even if there is no display output, the APU/iGPU is still WIRED and POWERED. So you could in those rare Cases use it for Plex/Jellyfin/etc Transcoding. But in most Cases if there is no Display Output, then the iGPU is not powered at all by the Chipset IIRC. Just to mention that it's 2 separate Things: a) The Physical Connector and b) The Fact that the iGPU/APU Graphics is powered or not ;) .
Regarding no support for 4000 series. Isn’t that series only APUs? Could that be why they say it’s not supported…

I don’t have any APU at my disposal so I couldn’t test unfortunately. But it would be fun if someone could try. For server use it could open up for a more power efficient yet powerful solution. If the iGPU would be accessible then that’s a bonus.

I’ve ordered a Ryzen 7 PRO 3700 on eBay to try out on my board. Will take a while for it to show up unfortunately.

For me the bios chip looks like its socket-ed and not soldered. So, eventually, you could just take it out and flash the 5XXX bios on it. Need to check once boards are arriving.
To be honest it does NOT look like it's socketed. It's either soldered or nowhere to be seen :p .

At least I cannot see a socketed Chip on the Motherboard that I received.

Depends ... Mainly on how good you can offload and if you have a NIC (almost mandatory above 25gbps I think) that can do RDMA/ROCE v2.
I was planning to use Mellanox CX-3 with Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. Don't have experience with RDMA/ROCE yet. Is it possible to plant this MB with CPU that can handle 40G wihthout RDMA / ROCE?

I gave a try with a Mellanox ConnectX-4 (non-LX) 100gbps QSFP28 in a Supermicro X11SSL-F with an Intel Xeon E3 1230 v5 I think.

It saturated the PCIe Slot Bandwidth at around 32 gbps (I also needed multiple iperf3 Processes in Parallel and add up the Data Transfers.).

Not really an Answer for this specific Question but iperf3 was definitively sweating on that Platform ... NO ROCE or RDMA enabled explicitely and 100% CPU usage on iperf3.

If you look at cpubenchmark and if we can trust it that would probably be comparable to an AMD Ryzen 3 5300U or so

Looks like I should rather heading for Ryzen 5600X

Check near the blue USB header, where also the one beige SATA connector is
It kinda looks Socketed but it's for sure NOT coming off with quite a bit of Force ... Unless there is a special kind of latch somewhere.

It definitively is labeled "BIOS" on the Silkscreen though .

What a weird place to put the BIOS Chip :) . I thought it would be near the bottom of the Board like the CMOS Battery or something ...

@Cruzader : how is your testing going ? Hopefully smoother than my Experience so far ...
It was so nice weather this weekend that i ended up not getting around to it at all
Was 17degrees and only 3m/s on the disc golf course.

I did get as far as to ask for a shipping quote on 2 of these tho.
Pricey at about 10200-10500 area NOK per (with import, shipping etc all included).

You asked for the lowest, I gave you my Opinion. You can of course also try to put a 5950x in it ...

Of course my Testing was only iperf3 across 2 Interfaces (on the same NIC Mind you Port 1 to Port 2, hence the PCIe Bandwidth was the Limiting Factor), but it was still full "Load" for the CPU switching between 2 different Linux Network User Namespaces ;) .

EDIT 1: If on top of it you add Firewall Rules, NAT and whatnot, of course you will need a more Powerful CPU
Yes, thank you for that. I can now make my picture. Since I can buy 5600X cheaper than 5300U, I hope it will work well.

Yeah, I get that. Even if you only had to pay 10 EUR more for it to get 2 Times the Performance it would be worth it ;).

Be mindful about the PCIe Slot Limitation though. The PCIe 3.0 x8 is only PCIe 3.0 x4 Electrical, so approx (theoretical) 4GB/s or 32gbps.

So you'd need to use the x16 for that if you want full Speed. But then you cannot install NVME and PCIe x4x4x4x4 Bifurcation ...

What is this beast? :)
Its this 8U case from innovision, its a "blade style" approach with 10 vertical rack cases in the outer 8U shell.
Still direct access to all from the rear like a normal case.

While its a bit steep of a pricetag its cheaper than 10x 1U cases.

You want to mount these ASRock Boards and AMD 5700X as "Blades" ?

That's expensive ...

I COMPLETELY blew my Budget for this Month. And of course you can be sure there will be lots of good Deals this Week I will not be able to purchase . I got another 6 x 16GB RAM DIMMs on a Sale though.
I tend to blow my budget every month, but i try to keep selling off toys as i get new ones.

I either need to go compact like those or just dedicate a rack to the ryzen nodes.
Then it would be drawing up a custom 3U case for that mobo to 3d print, to get full card height and more strength on the front ears.

I feel I don't have enough Time for that.

I could sell off some AM3 Motherboard+CPU+RAM Combos that I didn't even turn on for the past 4 years or so. Or also the Supermicro X10SLL-F and similar of that Generation. Or heck even the X9DRi and similar Xeon E5 v2 which now I plan to use as Desktop otherwise.

Problem is Time ... As well as Dealing with unreliable People not showing up etc.
This one positive side of living in the middle of nowhere, nobody wants to pick up stuff and its always shipping it.

Sold for about 120 000-130 000 NOK sofar this year.
I dont really have the time for listing it all either so mainly just been listing servers, but my goal is to put 2 non-server listings per week like NICs, DACs etc to clear some stuff out.

I was planning to test on the only Chassis that I had free which had a PSU and (originally) a X11SSL-F Motherboard in it.

Didn't notice it only was a 200W PSU and came with only a 20-Pin Motherboard Connector (plus a 8-Pin 12V Connector for the CPU).

I guess it's only 20-Pin because it's only rated 200W ...

Sounds like I need to find your marketplace (to add "needed" gear to my homelab).. :) Do you mostly list on Finn or somewhere else?

Damn it's a tight "Fit" for a Noctua NH-L12 Ghost Edition (L12 NOT L12S)

Not sure if the VRM Heatsink even damaged the Heatpipe on the left:

I purchased couple of these boards as well (waiting for processor and RAM to arrive) and as mention earlier they are most likely from Hetzner, to confirm if they had any problem i saw a discussion at lowendtalk, where one user said, B450D4U-V1L is not impacted

sth_asrock-1.png

while another user mention board manufactured between Q1 and Q3 2024 are impacted.

sth_asrock-2.png

Now i am not sure which boards i received, or where i can check the manufacture week.

edited: While in another post it was mention its only ASRock Rack B650 produced between Q1 and Q3 2024 with pre H4 serial numbers. Ubicloud wrote a detail article on Hetzner motherboard failure

These boards are too old to be the cause of any issues Hetzner has with AX42, AX52 and AX102. So how can they have any impact? There was no production of B450D4U boards in 2024 anymore. This guy 'fiberstate' is for sure not a Hetzner employee .... And Ubicloud wrote about AX162, that has nothing to do with the big Hetzner issue. Internet is funny.

Link: Hetzner Announcement

If you want to know which motherboards are causing the Hetzner issues, just rent them all and collect infos with 'lshw'.

@Patrick ... why can someone who quotes another post change the link and use this 'feature' to link someone to another targeted malicious address? Is this a feature, a bug or ....

I cannot even get to BIOS with a 2600X ... VGA (though a VGA-to-HDMI Adapter) doesn't output anything at all. USB Keyboard doesn't do anything when plugged in the USB Rear Ports.

Either my VGA to HDMI Adapter is not working, but after a loop of BIOS Codes it turns Off and just the Green LED near the ASPEED 2510 IC keeps flashing  .

But since I cannot see my LiveUSB on the DHCP Server's Leases, something is not quite right :( ...

EDIT 1: tried with another HDMI Adapter/Power Supply/Cable, still nothing. I already removed Battery & cleared CMOS Settings.

EDIT 2: Cannot reach a LiveUSB so I guess there is something like "Press F1 to continue" ... But I cannot see ANYTHING. And the Keyboard of course also doesn't work, Numlock doesn't even light up

EDIT 3: Latest BIOS Post Codes are d6-d7-b2-02

Which translate into:

0XD6: DXE_NO_CON_OUT
0xD7: DXE_NO_CON_IN
0xB2: DXE_LEGACY_OPROM_INIT
0x02: Not Described in the Manual

Then it just turns off (the BIOS Post Code 2-Digit Display, NOT the Motherboard !).

EDIT 4: for all Intents and Purposes this Board appears DOA. Or at least the VGA + USB Ports are  . According to the BIOS Post Code it seems to be booting but absolutely nothing happens. Tried also a USB to Ethernet Adapter instead of the onboard VGA (which seemed to be getting an IP Address, although NOT for the LiveUSB ...)

Are we sure this board does NOT have BMC ? Because the BMC LED is definitively blinking near the ASPEED 2510 (between the 2 PCIe Slots) !

Seriously this Motherboard is starting to tick me off for real  .

I tried another 2 PSUs, unplugged every USB Device ( https://www.reddit.com/r/homelab/comments/1it8sqv reported having Issues when USB was plugged in apparently).

Whoever at ASRock designed this Motherboard or at NOCTUA determined that the NH-L12 Ghost Edition CPU Cooler could have been installed ... Well ...
a) When using the Short Bars, see my Previous Post. The Heatpipes lean against the VRM Heatsink
b) When using the Long Bars, there is less than 1 Millimiter (!!!) clearance with the first DIMM ...

It just doesn't work  . What the hell does going past the BIOS Codes d6-d7-b2-02 mean ? Successful Boot I would say based on 0xB2 but I don't see an IP Address on the DHCP Server and I don't see any VGA Output. Let alone the USB Port that just doesn't seem to work for Keyboard.

Got my boards delivered yesterday. Here is what I have found out so far:

5500 (Cezanne, so APU with disabled GPU and no ECC) - boots, rear USB not working.

With BIOS default settings:
- CSM = enabled
- Launch Video OpROM Policy = Legacy Only
No video from onboard VGA pre-OS, but system POSTs and tries to boot. So if you boot linux it will initialize the onboard AST graphics and you get picture.

If I plug in pcie graphics card and change Launch Video OpROM Policy to UEFI only or disable CSM, then onboard VGA will work pre-OS, however then it would POST only when I removed my pcie graphics card.

I tried the ASPEED VROM flash utility for EFI shell too. It says it can't find VGA and won't do anything.

The unpopulated holes for buzzer on the board go to the Aspeed chip so they do nothing with the graphics only AST2510, thats why buzzer is not mounted in factory.

It's those soldered (NON-crimped) à la MOLEX-to-SATA-lose-all-your-Data kind of Fire Risk.
Its not like crimped vs non-crimped alone say anything regarding if its a risk or not tho.

Low quality of either can be a fire risk, neither is a fire risk as a general rule.
(The old rule of thumb is not about non-crimped plugs in general either, its about some specific low quality adapters that sellers used to include.)

Of course I could chop it off and try to re-crimp a Molex Connector out of it, but it would have been nicer if these SATA Connectors were not there to begin with :( .
I can only imagine your disappointment unpacking a brand new server and first task is to start chopping off connectors.
