  • keyboard and mouse on the built-in USB3 port : not working
  • used the provided usb3 cable, that worked.
  • had to add a PCIE gpu (old MSI passive cooled thing), to get video posting on screen

was thinking, let's update to bios 2.12 on the Ryzen 2600x, flashed ok, but after rebooting, board gets stuck on b0 (reseat cpu or ram), tried 3 differents dimms. nothing, was convinced i bricked one board. I tried the second last board, left the bios as is (2.09), same story gpu and usb3 cable required in order to do anything, but more or less functional board.

this evening tried a ryzen 3100 cpu on the board i thought i bricked, and connected the vga monitor to the onboard adapter, removed the gpu, left out the usb3 cable and connected keyboard to the onboard usb3 port, and guess what: it boots fine, video posts, keyboard words and easily installed proxmox from a netboot.xyz environment.

lessons learned: ryzen 3000 series are the sweet spot for these boards

Actually I was just checking their own Webshop (Gebrauchte Hardware günstig kaufen | Alpha38) and they also state that USB and VGA do NOT work on MANY of the Motherbpards and that they are not sure, if this is due to the BIOS Version or if it's related to the Hardware Revision of the Motherboard.

Crucially that was NOT in the eBay Listing !

Two questions:
1. Has anyone tried an Intel Arc GPU in this motherboard? I just got an Arc B580 and it isn't detected at all when I installed it into the PEG slot. Card lights up, fans spin, but lspci output shows nothing. (tested with an R5 5600 and BIOS 2.12)
2. Is there an archive of BIOS files somewhere? I have only 2.09, 2.10, and 2.12. This board supposedly supports Ryzen 2000 series CPUs, but according to @VirMach only with a 1.X BIOS. With a Ryzen 2600, I have no USB/VGA running 2.09. Someone has a dump of the 1.14 BIOS they could share?

Well a 6 Core will have a better Chance than a 8 Core.

And if we can Unlock the Overclock/Overvolt Menu in BIOS (or modify those via Script and/or MSR or similar - there are some Ryzen/EPYC Overclock and Undervolt Utilities on GitHub) then you'd have a better Chance IMHO.

My experience with the Undervolt Tool on GitHub (for Intel) was on the Fujitsu TX1320 M3 with a E3-1270 v6 IIRC it went from approx. 85°C to 60°C with only a 100mV offset Reduction in Core & a 50mV Reduction in Cache Voltage. Plus reducing the Max Frequency from something like 3.8GHz to 3.2GHz (cannot remember the exact Values, but it was a bit of Voltage & Frequency Reduction for A LOT of Thermal Losses/Temperature Reduction).

AMD Ryzen also undervolts quite well (there's the Silicon Lottery though) so I'd guess even at say 50mV less that will probably reduce the Temperatures by 5°C-10°C.

If you want to go for the Cheapest possibly this one should be close to the AMD Stock Cooler. No experience with either though:

But IMHO you shouldn't design your System to be at 90°C at full Load.

In my Case I'd expect also the Thermalright AXP120-X67 and that one has 6 Heatpipes (meaning the Heat Transfer will be so much better compared to a 0 or 2 Heatpipes Cooler).

I'd run a Test at full load with one of these Coolers (or the one you suggested) before buying 12 of those if I were you.

IMHO all of the ones I mention in this Post (except the Thermalright AXP120-X67) are greatly undersized for a 2700X/3700X/5700X and probably on the Edge (100°C ?) for a 2600X

And a question:
Has someone used and (mem-/stress-) tested a 16 core CPU on this board?

I tested a 5900XT. With this CPU and 2x dual rank 32GB ECC 3200 sticks the board locks up during memtest. Tried with SOC voltage of 1.2V - now the time until lock up is longer, but eventually it crashes too. For now I think it probably is just bad pick at the silicone lottery. Board is stable with smaller memories (for example with 2x dual rank 16GB ECC 3200) and the 2x dual rank 32GB ECC 3200 sticks have no problems with 5700X CPU.

When the crash occurs, fan speeds go down, power usage sinks to 20W (from around 33W when idle). And the power button will not shut down the machine. One has to pull the power cord out to boot again. Googling around I got the impression this points to IMC crash. Lowering the ram speed from 1600 to 1500 made the time needed to wait until crash longer. Crash occurs with both Memrest86+ and PassMark Memtest - it just takes different amount of time until crash.

I yet have not tested this CPU - RAM combination on another motherboard model so I do not know if it could be the motherboards fault.

I saw that but don't know why.

The first Time I ordered 2 Pieces the Package got Lost so after 2 Weeks I had to apply for a Refund. Don't know if it's the Cause of the "Returns". When I contacted the Amazon Customer Service, they issued a Refund which actually, in their System, counts as a "Return".

Possibly saw a Review stating that it was already used (no Plastic Cover on the Bottom of the CPU Cooler) and he returned it.

I had ordered 2x extra in the meantime and those arrived on Monday :) .

You probably need to extract Everything.

Before crashing memtest shows the CPU max temperature I think around 78C.
VRM temperature during test I have not checked, will try to do that with a thermocamera.
Otherwise the system is in a closed 2U case with Dynatron A47 cooler and 2x 80mm case fans. Fan settings are on auto in BIOS and correctly ramp up the speed when system is under load.
One possibility would be to set the case fans to maximum speed and see if it prevents the crash or modulates the time needed to crash.

@ALinden: What about the Configuration Settings that I asked for ? Did you have a chance to dump these now that you did the BIOS Mod ?

Ive gone with 40$ 10packs of 16gb optane from aliexpress and some 3$ pcie m.2 adapters for these boards.

A 5900XT is a newer processor than many AM4's and maybe needs a newer BIOS

Did a couple more tests.
First same 5900XT and 2x32 ECC DDR4 3200 but on a x570 motherboard - all OK. So the CPU can work with the memory on another motherboard.

Then again with B450D4U-V1LQ5:
Added extra fan blowing directly to VRM heatsink. Heatsink now noticeably cooler. Still crash.
Same memory but changed B450D4U-V1LQ5 with another B450D4U-V1LQ5 - crash.
Changed 5900XT with a 5950X - crash.
Still with 5950X set RAM speed to 1333 and SOC voltage to 1.2V - had to wait longer - instead 5-7 minutes - it crashed after 1 hour.

So the combo B450D4U-V1LQ5 - 16 core CPU - 2x32Gb will not pass Memtest. Change any of the three and its OK.

Just "please merge posts". Try to copy paste my posts into one, you'll see that the system does NOT ALLOW YOU TO DO IT! All whole spouting out a cryptic error which doesn't tell anything about the nature of the Problem.

Maybe it's really better that I leave the thread and most of this forum and take down all my stuff from GitHub as well. Then let's leave everybody reinvent the wheel every single time.

Especially this character limitations and image posting limitation is getting bad for my blood pressure...
