Thought I'd share an interesting observation.
Ordered another 2 boards, a week or so ago, just before the stock dried up.

I received 2 boards, and this time, there was a USB3 cable included.
my existing boards are all Ryzen 3000 series cpu now.

I still had a Ryzen 2600x left for testing etc. gave one of the boards a spin up.
  • No video, but boards seems to be posting looking at the debug led activity.
  • keyboard and mouse on the built-in USB3 port : not working
  • used the provided usb3 cable, that worked.
  • had to add a PCIE gpu (old MSI passive cooled thing), to get video posting on screen
This reminded me of LuckyLinux adventures.

was thinking, let's update to bios 2.12 on the Ryzen 2600x, flashed ok, but after rebooting, board gets stuck on b0 (reseat cpu or ram), tried 3 differents dimms. nothing, was convinced i bricked one board. I tried the second last board, left the bios as is (2.09), same story gpu and usb3 cable required in order to do anything, but more or less functional board.

this evening tried a ryzen 3100 cpu on the board i thought i bricked, and connected the vga monitor to the onboard adapter, removed the gpu, left out the usb3 cable and connected keyboard to the onboard usb3 port, and guess what: it boots fine, video posts, keyboard words and easily installed proxmox from a netboot.xyz environment.

lessons learned: ryzen 3000 series are the sweet spot for these boards
Actually I was just checking their own Webshop (Gebrauchte Hardware günstig kaufen | Alpha38) and they also state that USB and VGA do NOT work on MANY of the Motherbpards and that they are not sure, if this is due to the BIOS Version or if it's related to the Hardware Revision of the Motherboard.

Crucially that was NOT in the eBay Listing !

USB- und VGA-Anschlüsse funktionieren auf vielen Motherboards nicht. Wir sind uns nicht sicher, ob dies auf die Bios-Version oder die Komponentenversion des Boards bezogen ist.

30 EUR is more I'm willing to give considering I need 12 pieces. This is more like price tag I'd like:
But have no idea if this will cool down 2600X. This will be my first experience with AMD board & CPU since Duron and I'm still waiting for CPU's. Then I will be more useful testing your scripts :)
Well a 6 Core will have a better Chance than a 8 Core.

And if we can Unlock the Overclock/Overvolt Menu in BIOS (or modify those via Script and/or MSR or similar - there are some Ryzen/EPYC Overclock and Undervolt Utilities on GitHub) then you'd have a better Chance IMHO.

My experience with the Undervolt Tool on GitHub (for Intel) was on the Fujitsu TX1320 M3 with a E3-1270 v6 IIRC it went from approx. 85°C to 60°C with only a 100mV offset Reduction in Core & a 50mV Reduction in Cache Voltage. Plus reducing the Max Frequency from something like 3.8GHz to 3.2GHz (cannot remember the exact Values, but it was a bit of Voltage & Frequency Reduction for A LOT of Thermal Losses/Temperature Reduction).

AMD Ryzen also undervolts quite well (there's the Silicon Lottery though) so I'd guess even at say 50mV less that will probably reduce the Temperatures by 5°C-10°C.

If you want to go for the Cheapest possibly this one should be close to the AMD Stock Cooler. No experience with either though:

Or maybe this ?

Or the smaller Thermalright brother ?

But IMHO you shouldn't design your System to be at 90°C at full Load.

In my Case I'd expect also the Thermalright AXP120-X67 and that one has 6 Heatpipes (meaning the Heat Transfer will be so much better compared to a 0 or 2 Heatpipes Cooler).

I'd run a Test at full load with one of these Coolers (or the one you suggested) before buying 12 of those if I were you.

IMHO all of the ones I mention in this Post (except the Thermalright AXP120-X67) are greatly undersized for a 2700X/3700X/5700X and probably on the Edge (100°C ?) for a 2600X

Thank you for your tips. Will definitely test before I buy 12 pieces. Also, I see AXP120-X67 marked as "Frequently returned":

Small update from me:

Unsuppressed "Platform first error reporting" setting. This should be disabled for ECC reporting to work.
I do not have Memtest paid version to test error injection.
When I have some time I plan to test other methods to induce errors (memory overclock, pin shortening, heat) and verify error reporting.

Instant Flash does not like the modded bios. CH341 programmer works for me.

Unfortunately I did not find the settings @hmartin wanted in CbsSetupDxe

You can find my modded bios (and some notes about this board) here: GitHub - AndrewLinden/B450D4U-V1LQ5: ASRock Rack B450D4U-V1LQ5

I saw that but don't know why.

The first Time I ordered 2 Pieces the Package got Lost so after 2 Weeks I had to apply for a Refund. Don't know if it's the Cause of the "Returns". When I contacted the Amazon Customer Service, they issued a Refund which actually, in their System, counts as a "Return".

Possibly saw a Review stating that it was already used (no Plastic Cover on the Bottom of the CPU Cooler) and he returned it.

I had ordered 2x extra in the meantime and those arrived on Monday :) .

That's probably because it's NOT in CbsSetupDxe ...

You probably need to extract Everything.

Could be this one in Section_Volume_image_9E21FD93-9C72-4C15-8C4B-E77F1DB2D792_body.vol.6.7.en-US.ifr.txt.

This is in Setup Section:

I would attach the File but this Forum is broken as always with Uploads o_O

And no, I don't know how to "Navigate" where this is exactly located, although uefitool -> Action -> Search -> GUID Tab -> set GUID & Search Scope set to Header & Body will list quite a few of Results, then double click the one with ... in Setup/PE32

EDIT 1: You must Search (by GUID) for EC87D643-EBA4-4BB5-A1E5-3F3E36B20DA9 (see Top of the Pastebin file, VarStoreId: 0x1 corresponds to that GUID and Setup Section Name). Make sure Search Scope is set to Header & Body otherwise it will NOT work

EDIT 2: so under this "Tree" basically (as the Filename above, Section_Volume_image_9E21FD93-9C72-4C15-8C4B-E77F1DB2D792_body.vol.6.7.en-US.ifr.txt, suggested):

@ALinden: What about the Configuration Settings that I asked for ? Did you have a chance to dump these now that you did the BIOS Mod ?

I had shared with you the dmidecode Output a while ago already

@luckylinux the last 6 posts in this thread are from you, some only minutes after the next and related to the previous one.

Please consider editing your posts to amend information instead of making more and more. The many posts bloat the thread and discourage people from reading 20+ pages of posts to catch up...

Is that Euros or  ?
Yes.
Got some good deals on pallets of servers that i could not refuse.

Also for coolers that was discussed a bit earlier, pio still have 600+ left of these after the mc12-le0 boards as most boards sold without coolers.
Would expect some fairly low offers for 12pcs to be accepted.

After bios mod I did a quick compare of SCELNX output, and to me it seems that the settings were the same between original and modded bios. But only with modded bios ECC would be activated upon boot.

Yes I saw your dmidecode data with UUID similar to what I had.
Regarding to UUID I found this nice writeup how to set a generated UUID. The same utility allows to change also other SMBIOS data.

You have experience with these? Will they cool down 2600X better then those discussed?

If they are better than those mentioned i dont know, ive used them for multiple 5700x builds for over a year and not had any temp issues tho.
The first round of MC12-LE0 boards i bought had these included.

I don't know where you get the impression I'm having fun.

If somebody would bother to fix this stupid character limitation in this forum MAYBE I wouldn't have to split them into separate posts.

Weird eh?

But I guess it's useless to even try to help really, I just get scolded from doing so. Not even a thank you... And not answering the question I asked either.

Just "please merge posts". Try to copy paste my posts into one, you'll see that the system does NOT ALLOW YOU TO DO IT! All whole spouting out a cryptic error which doesn't tell anything about the nature of the Problem.

Maybe it's really better that I leave the thread and most of this forum and take down all my stuff from GitHub as well. Then let's leave everybody reinvent the wheel every single time.

Especially this character limitations and image posting limitation is getting bad for my blood pressure...
