I was wondering if I could tap the collective knowledge of you more experienced home lab builders. I recently bought an Asrock EP2C602-4L/D16 to use with two E5-2670v1 ES QB7A. I've been using this memory listed in the Amazon link (purchased from Best Buy) since I needed some in a pinch. The first 8 sticks (64 GB) populated for CPU1 work great. However if I add any of these sticks to CPU2's banks, I can't post. Debug codes indicate a memory error. I have tried adding 4GB DDR 1600 sticks to CPU2 banks and they allow post. If this was a memory incompatibility in the board, wouldn't we be having an issue with CPU1's banks?

I've been trying a variety of memory options in the BIOS but nothing seems to do the trick. There doesn't seem to be an area to mess with timings, only voltage. Which is set at 1.5v. So far DDR 1333, 1600, and 1866 allow post (with only CPU1's banks populated), but on 1866, not all 8 sticks appear in the BIOS.

Silly questions but?

a) Have you ruled out the motherboard as the cause of this problem?
Looked inside the memory slots for coffee?
Checked caps for bulges?
Examined the motherboard for miscellaneous crap on the board?

b) Have you tested the ram individually with each CPU?

Have you switched the 2 CPUs around in the motherboard - not all es's are created equal.

c) Have you made sure that cpu2 is properly seated?

d) Have you checked if the motherboard accepts non ecc in a 2P configuration?

Air, Gas or Spark.... CPU, RAM or Motherboard...
It seems like you have proven the the RAM is not the problem.

I'm surprised you even got the 8gb sticks to work considering the board only officially supports LR/R/U DIMMs running at 1.35V or 1.5V.

Personally I'd grab some cheap 8gb RDIMMs and call it a day, and repurpose the desktop memory for a desktop :p
