I saw great reviews/comments about used aruba S2500 for the ebay price, and I was wondering what would be the next choice if looking for a switch that is more recent?

People here seem to have moved onto the brocade 6450. I tried finding one at the aruba price, and could never, so went with a s2500/24p for ~$70 shipped. Pulls about 40w with no POE connections.

Any problem with the S2500 so far? Did you check for a trusted ebay seller? I read in a thread that some ebay seller was sellling S2500 units with faulty POE ports.

I got from
Items for sale by interkosmos_inc | eBay
Condition really niced, packed very well. I haven't run down each POE port TBH, but when I've plugged UAPs in they have worked....

Regarding transceivers, these aren't supported, but seem to work fine:
I don't get the optics data that I would get from a "supported" one, but works to my CX-3 at 10gb. I'm sure I don't ever pull more than a couple hundred mb/s over the 10gbe link.

Note, if this matters to you at all, the S2500 does NOT do Layer 3 IPv6. The most you can do with IPv6 on the device is manage it; there's not even static routing. That's the only reason I didn't go with one. Otherwise I've generally only heard good things.

Yeah I was looking for a more recent version, such as the 2930F, but can't find any at a discount on ebay. What switch did you choose for IPv6?

I ended up going with an ICX6450, but as it turns out it's limited to some extent on IPv6 as well. At this point were I shopping I'd be looking at an ICX7250 - it's got more 10G ports that are easier to enable than the 6450, and it's got better IPv6 support.

The ICX7250 I found seem to only have 8x1gbe SFP or 2x10gbe SFP+.

The ICX7250 I found seem to only have 8x1gbe SFP or 2x10gbe SFP+.
So there's two basic types of 7250; there's the 24G/48G (the G is the important part) that has four total SFP ports that are 1-gig only ports.

The other type is the ones with 8 SFP+ ports. If you're seeing them listed as 8x1GbE, that's because they don't have their licenses enabled. However, with the current firmwares (see Fohdeesha's megathread in here - there's details on the first page including links to downloads, or you can get them direct from Ruckus with a free account) all that is required is to issue a command to enable the 10G functionality on the ports. It's an honor-based system, and as long as you're using it for personal use I sincerely doubt they'll care.

Which of course would mean don't pay extra for the 2x10GbE versions, as you can convert all of those "gigabit" ports to 10G SFP+ with a command.
