So This is just a link to a blog article but I think it's all relevent to this discussion and would like to talk with you guys about the topic.

When Solid State Drives are not that solid | Milliseconds Matter

TLDR;

SSD Hardware failure from TRIM support causing corrupt blocks.

Broken SSDs:
  • SAMSUNG MZ7WD480HCGM-00003
  • SAMSUNG MZ7GE480HMHP-00003
  • SAMSUNG MZ7GE240HMGR-00003
  • Samsung SSD 840 PRO Series
    recently blacklisted for 8-series blacklist
  • Samsung SSD 850 PRO 512GB
    recently blacklisted as 850 Pro and later in 8-series blacklist
Working SSDs:
  • Intel S3500
  • Intel S3700
  • Intel S3710

Tl;dr: Samsung's firmware says it supports NCQ queued TRIM but doesn't really. Windows doesn't support this feature yet but Linux does. Hence corruption. Patch is there in latest Linux kernel to work around this by blacklisting the feature from some Samsung drives.

Sadly still a disaster waiting to happen if a user running a not-bleeding-edge kernel sans blacklist decides to update their firmware... blacklist will need to be backported to all those kernels out in the wild that already support queued trim.
