I have a APC Smart UPS 1500 here at home of which the batteries need replacement before I can finally use it after sitting in the room for 2 years now.
But upon looking up the correct Voltage and capacity, I noticed there is also a lead gel type these days.
The batteries I have now are lead acid.

I looked into it a bit, but can't seem to find if replacing lead acid batteries with lead gel batteries is a wise thing to do.
They both have their advantages and disadvantages it seems.

Hope anyone has an answer for me.

The batteries that come with these units are gel cels. You really want a deep cycle battery as discharging regular lead acid batteries to near flat damages them. Just don't use wet cell batteries as found in your car, they produce hydrogen when recharged and it is vented to the atmosphere. Explosion risk is high.

Are you sure? Because that's not what I get from the batteries themselves.

I have a smart-UPS SMX750i and i replaced the batteries a couple of year ago. They were sealed lead/acid and i replaced the with the same brand but bought them in a German online shop at a fraction of the APC prices.
