Ive purchased a used C6100 for a very good price. I've read alot on these forums for this server. I'm a bit late to the game but it will still serve me quite well for what I need.

I'm having issues, though, with VT-D. Has anyone succeeded in fully enabling VT-D?

Everything suggests it should work.

BIOS VT-D is enabled.
Chipset is Intel 5520 which supports VT-D interrupt remapping.
Processor is L5640 which supports VT-D.

However, Linux reports interrupt remapping is not supported without enabling unsafe handling.
It seems it should work out of the box.

I have tried two later BIOS revisions with no success.

Has anyone got VT-D and interrupt remapping working on these units?

Does the C6100 support VT-d? I don't remember since its been awhile. It was the Xeon E5 V2 era that VT-d worked no problem on all servers. The V1 era IIRC had some issues with early revision chips.

"enabling unsafe handling" could be disclaimer about taking the risk of executing on CPUs with no patches against MeltDown and Spectre? No, bad guess,

What is meant by interrupt remapping in Linux?

mentions a blog that says the 5520 chipset does not do interrupt remapping well and to turn it off in grub via intremap=off.
