I was assembling 1TB SSDs today (putting PCB into casing) and around #16 I thought: I wonder if anyone is interested in how a modern SSD is put together?

I still have ten or so go to so if anyone wants to see, I can take pictures and offer some insights into the changes from what we saw a few years ago.

Why are you assembling over 2 dozen SSD o_O here I thought putting 4 screws in 2 dozen was tedious enough :D:D

For Flash Memory Summit next month/ DemoEval after that.

At least I do not have to remove any screws from these.

Sorry, I guess the better question was why are they not assembled already :)

You can buy just the PCB separately? Is there a cost savings?

I was watching this eBay auction a couple of days ago: OCZ SSD Vector 180 960GB (1TB) 2.5-Inch SATA 3 Toshiba Solid State Drive

Somehow the guy ended up with just the PCB of a Vector 180 960GB and he put it in an unmarked case from some other drive. Folks didn't seem to mind and bid it up to $200 + $10 shipping. Although I'm not sure if the top bidder realized that this was a repackaged product. S/he might be in for a surprise.
The weird part about it is that the SSDLife Pro screenshot showed this thing being powered on/off 52,000+ times!
