Just wondering if anybody on here is using or has tried a LRDIMM + Asrock ROMED8-2T + EPYC 7002 combination and can comment on their experience. I see a lot of posts here about issues with LRDIMM ram on supermicro/H12SSL boards along with a couple of comments indicating this combo works flawlessly on gigabyte boards but zero about LRDIMM with the ROMED8-2T.
I'm in the middle of acquiring hardware for my new home server build and I was about to purchase a 2nd hand kit of LRDIMM but become hesitant when I saw the posts about issues with the H12SSL. If it works, LRDIMM is looking like the best option. I can get get 512GB of 2400T for $680 AUD or 2666V for $760 on ebay from Australian sellers with high scores and basically flawless feedback (the 2666V is being sold by an account with 22 years on ebay, 25K sales, 8k score and 100% positive feedback). By comparison almost all of the RDIMM modules are 16 or 32GB so I would either be limited to 256GB or have to pay a lot more ($1142 AUD) and source it from overseas.
The ram is not on the QVL, Crucial LRDIMM in 32, 64 and 128GB are listed and the board does state it supports LRDIMM: up to 128GB
Just hoping some people here have tried or used this combo or can offer some guidance. This is my first time building an actual server class system, my last one was a Ryzen CPU on an asrock rack board.
Hardware:
CPU: AMD EPYC 7452 32 core
Motherboard: Asrock ROMED8-2T
RAM: 512GB (8x 64GB) 4DRx4 PC4-2400T or 2666V LRDIMM DDR4 (leaning towards the 2666V)
PSU: Seasonic Prime 1300W Gold
GPU: 2x GALAX GeForce RTX 3090 SG 24GB
SSD: Samsung 980 PRO 2TB SSD Primary Drive
CASE: Considering a Fractal Meshify 2 XL
Edit: the 2666V ram is 8x 64GB 4DRx4 PC4-2666V-LD2-12-MA0 M386A8k40CM2-CTD6Q if that matters to anybody.
