Asking more 'cuz I'm curious after following the C6100 & subsequent C8220 threads ( https://forums.servethehome.com/index.php?threads/dell-poweredge-c8220-build-and-questions.11292/ )
Is it possible to use newer/other nodes and/or different motherboards with the existing node sleds in these 4 node server chassis? STH Review of the server chassis here: https://www.servethehome.com/dell-poweredge-c6100-xs23-ty3-cloud-server-2u-4-node-8-sockets/
I'm seeing them for ~$150 Shipped in the U.S., with four dual L5640 or L5520 nodes, PSUs and drive trays. I don't think 8x L5640, or any Nehalem generation motherboards/CPUs, is necessarily a good thing at this point. But its an interesting chassis, and I recall that the one I saw in the wild wasn't even all that loud. If newer nodes would work, or if other motherboards could be fitted, it might be as interesting as the projects people have posted for running the nodes as stand-alone.
