Has anyone come across hot swap drive cages that are larger than 5 3.5" in 3 5.25"? I know I could do multiple cages, but was curious if there was like a 9 in 6 or something.
Those things look slick i just can't imagine the thermals of that many 7mm drives is easy on anythingI've never seen anything larger than a 5n3 for a 3.5" drive. I've seen 8 in 1for 2.5" drives made by icy dock.
They are meant for SSD's which won't run as hot as spinning disks. Those things look slick i just can't imagine the thermals of that many 7mm drives is easy on anything
you should temp a fully loaded SSD, they get hot themselves, I imagine some thermal throttling might occur in that situationThey are meant for SSD's which won't run as hot as spinning disks.
I envisioned an array of them as soon as the 2TB mushkins come down in price.
I have one I retired because SSD temps were hitting 55c. This was in an over cooled case (6 110mm fans).
what type of ssd did you test/what workload? that's far lower than i'd expect under a sustained load although the 6 fans might have helped if they were all using aluminum chassisI have one I retired because SSD temps were hitting 55c. This was in an over cooled case (6 110mm fans).
ahh that makes more sense, I imagine doubling the drive count(especially with high density 2tb drives) would not be easy on them under full loadSorry, it's a 4 in 1 icy dock 2.5".

Well made but poor air circulation.
three of those is actually lower density than a pair of 5in3 without the benefit of hot-swap@lucidrenegade: I think the best you can do is here:

You get 3:2 so your 9:6 would work. I don't know if I'd do it though, pretty tight looking.
Soooo... many... Sata cables needed!I know this was about 3.5 inch drives but i just stumbled on a 12 in 3 for 2.5 Amazon.com: Vantec 12 x 2.5 Inches SAS/SATA SSD/HDD 3 Bay Aluminum Mobile Rack MRK-M2512T: Computers & Accessories
How about three of these!Soooo... many... Sata cables needed!
I imagine those might get a tad toasty, i've got a pair of 2tb 850 pro's and they get uncomfortably warm to say the least
To get that level of drive density, I would suffer the amount of plugs...
