Seems like a really great deal on Aliexpress at the moment. Patrick went over a few 2.5Gb switches a few times so thid likely would be of the same quality? I'm assuming the Webui or functionality is nothing crazy. Just like with the other Realtek based switches.

Just mostly care about reliability. Came across old stories of how it'd be non functional or have bandwidth issues. One (STH main site post I think) of it crashing during extended tests. Someone even mentioned DAC of all things not working most times, albeit on an older gen.

Hoping since then, they're somewhat reliable now. To

I've been looking at this switch for last 2 months. As I understand it's a new product for them.

I've been running their 6 ports versions (one 2sfp+, one 10gbaseT+sfp+), they are working great.

Hasivo offered to sell non POE, web management version for $180, kinda pricey so I haven't yet pulled the trigger.

Im concerned about temperature of RJ45 ports...

The 6 port non-PoE version was $180? This one comes in at $211.19 & is Managed L3. There's a 6x SFP+, 2x 10Gb RJ45 thats cheaper but Layer 2.

I'm wondering how difficult management is on these due to wonky documentation and official site & manual being in chinse.

Management in 6 ports verions is basic but very easy, they support vlans too. But I don't know what kind of management they have in 8 ports model. It's more premium model and I expect it will have better software

What's the $218 number there? Was it a discount being applied at checkout?

thats how much web-managed non-POE switch cost before x-mass, I believe its now $198

Yes they gave a discount of $38. I imagine same thing cost $160 now.

Ahh, was a little confused there. Makes sense. But I think setting the currency to USD actually gives a lower price. I might just go all in & make the purchase to see what the total is at the end.

right. if you are non-US, never buy from AliExpress in your local currency, if you unlucky, you get ripped off twice.

I also worry about the RJ45 port temps. Wondering how hot it gets compared to an SFP+ with RJ45 transceiver. I specifically looked for at least 1 RJ45 due to my ISP router being weird & likely throttling a 10Gb port to negotiate at 5Gb/s (speedtest showed it spiking around 2.3Gbs, just like on my 2.5G port). A multi-gig module rated for 5Gbs didn't resolve it so I'm trying to knock out all possibilities. Plus I got a few devices like WiFi node RJ45 so why not get more RJ45's?

Or just get the all SFP+, test the temps with module, and if it's too much get a primary upstream switch/router.

Never even thought to check that, good thing you replied with this to make me think :D

Is no one concerned about the software running on these no-name switches? Especially the L3 variety?

I mean...it takes years (and serious expertise = top notch devs) to develop a rock solid switch OS.

I don't know about no name, we've had Patrick do a handful of dives into them that's something, right? The management interface is the generic one that most Realtek based switches come with. Pretty ugly, unintuitive & feature wise, nothing special.

If I could get set something miniscule upstream to be the brains & just one of these unmanaged as a cheap ports expansion, I would. But I don't know anything with minimum 1x 10Gb RJ45 & 1x SFP+ that isn't pricey and/or just too big. Maybe the new MikroTik with 4x 10GBase-T woulda been nice if slightly cheaper (£130 + another switch, racks up).

I have looked at this switch recently, in fact, it’s in my Aliexpress cart. Is anyone concerned about backdoors, etc? This being a no-name chinese managed L3 and all.

There’s one from a similar vendor that offers L2 unmanaged and 8xsfp+ ports, and for some reason I’m somewhat less concerned about it.

Are my concerns totally unfounded?

disable internet access to/from a switch on your firewall if you're concerned

Also, I would be more worried about backdoors in Intel cards or CPUs knowing the recent history of revelation

Not particularly, no. These switches all run the generic management interface and CLI provided by the Realtek SDK as far as I can tell. :) In other words, there was no need for Hasivo to spend years developing a solid switch OS as it was already a part of the platform provided by Realtek. Something they did have to do was customize the SDK for their hardware configuration and implement support for their own PoE board.

@atmos-o The reference to DACs not working was before I got Hasivo to provide me with a firmware update that allows you to select the DAC signal calibration (essentially pick between the different length presets from the SDK). Since then, I've been running my RTL9301 based Hasivo switch as my main switch with a 10 Gbps DAC uplink to my router. :)

There is another 10gbaseT + 10G SFP+ model on the market from ONTI

Quite pricey tho

I wonder when Xike/Seeker will come up with same models, they are usually quite cheap...
