Still UDIMMs. De-featured for a consumer product.

that reminded me of my recent experience in searching for a perfect X79 MB. The asus p9x79 support rdimm but only up to 8gb... if you want to use 16gb module to get to 128gb, you have to use the rare 16gb ddr3 udimm (which is a unicorn). Its interesting how asus site even mentioned only udimm is support when rdimm also actually work on their board (up to 8gb modules...)

The problem is that udimm are usually more expensive then rdimm esp when it comes to the higher capacity.

I want it...........

It's hard to justify spending money without a huge gain over my dual E5-2667 V3 main pc.

Don't get me wrong it would be a real big step up over the current dual E5 setup and would actually make more sense to go with a 2990WX and new board, I can still use the 64 gig's DDR4 I already have and almost everything else, vs going with a couple of higher end V3 or V4 Xeons to replace the 2667 V3's.

I would only need a new motherboard and the cpu.

But to get the performance increase that I would be interested in I would have to spend a ton-o-money to get it.

So saying that, if I can wheel and deal enough to get it I would in a heartbeat.

klee, make sure you have udimm else you will have to buy 64 gb of ddr4 udimm also...not cheap..lol...

My dual 2696 v3 still very competitive to all these newer cpus... the single core speed is definitely a little slower but nothing like that slow. but anyone can tell me if there's anything right now that's cheaper than $1.4K i paid for the dual 2696 v3 that give better multicore performance?

I have 64 gigs of Gskill Trident Z 3200 that I bought on sale from new egg a year and a half ago, it was so good of a deal I thought it was a mistake and that they would cancel my order but they did not, I only regret not buying two sets. I think it was $349.00 or a bit less.

This is the ram I use on my Dual E5-2667 V3 pc.

Yep when you get to the high end dual V3 or V5 its starting to get close the the 2990 WX in price.

Edit: It was $349.00, a few days later they were re-listed for $670.99 for the set.

G.SKILL TridentZ Series 64GB (8 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) Intel X99 Platform Memory (Desktop Memory) Model F4-3200C16Q2-64GTZB - Newegg.com

Current price $549.99

These would work great with the Threadripper 2
