Does anyone have any hands-on experience with these chips? The little that I could find online is that it was a custom spec for someone like Alibaba. There is an intel ice lake cpu, the 8375C that is used by microsoft for azure cloud instances that seems to be a similar concept. I believe the amd 7v12 was also this type of custom build for a specific customer. The specs of the 7T83s seem to be identical to the standard 7763. Both the 8375c and 7T83s seem to be available from mainly Chinese suppliers. Thanks for any insight!

Yep, the 7V12, 7T83, 8375C, and the infamous "only boots on ASRock and that one Gigabyte board" 8124M are all semi-custom SKUs with tailored core configs and (especially) power limits for hyperscalers. As far as I know, the only parts that have caused trouble are the 240W Xeons - there is an issue where if the CPU reports >205W, the VRM controller refuses to start on many models of boards.

the EPYC 7T83 requires at least a supermicro H12 board. there is nothing special.

the 8375C 300W runs on a ASRock Rack SPC621D8-(2L/2T) which officialy supports TDP up to 300W.
8375C works also on X12SPL and X12DPi-N6, X12DAi-N6, but with power limiting, all core turbo may lower than on ASRock Rack i.e.

Thanks for all of the extra info. I was considering the 8375c with a dell r750. The Dell already has the vhp fans and HP heatsinks. It also has dual 1400w psus. I am not sure about the rest of the power delivery of that system. The 7t83 was for a tyan 2u rack server that supports the Milan's. I read somewhere that the 7t83s could be overclocked. I had an Asus server that supported overclocking but got rid of it a while ago.

do you know if the 7V12 will work in the H11DSi?

Just received my 7T83, big batches of these 7763 OEMs have recently been stripped from vendors as large quantities are now flowing into Xianyu (Chinese eBay), was told by several sellers that these are compatible with regular retailer boards (H12SSL, ROMED8-2T, etc...), will power this beast on later today.

What was the price via xianyu? How long did shipping take?
you can buy them at taobao. at a trustful seller the 7T83 is 20000-26000 yuan/RMB
this is about 3500-4000 USD if you pay with PayPal and use Superbuy as agent.
But as a first time buyer Superbuy may not accept Paypal. you have to topup your balance first.

Any idea how it might be overclocked? I tried the zenstates overclocking tool knowing it probably wouldn’t work, and of course it didn’t :)

Just FYI for this thread - I built a mATX build with the Epyc 7T83, water cooled on a ROMED8U-2T, chip seems to be running well under Linux and Windows… My best passmark is ~78K, which is little less than expected (maybe the board can’t deliver the full power?)

there is OC tool for "Rome ES Overclocking" maybe there is a mod.version with Milan support.

Thanks Rollo… been searching but no worries!

What is weird my performance is lower not that I’ve water cooled the CPU (temps are amazingly low)… but my XMRig hash rate is lower than my 3970x! (just using as a test, not big Monero miner or anything)

Before on air cooling, I was getting ~45KH/s, now around 28KH/s - that said I didn’t test as long when it was air cooled (passmark was similar in both situations, around 78k which still seems a little low). Anyone have an idea of what’s going on?

If I had to take a guess: you either lost some memory channels, or CPU VRMs are overheating now.

the win10 scheduler is much overloaded with 128 log.processors, note the bitmask infinity is 64bit.
some other task removes perf. ? check early after boot the frq.of the cores(HWinfo) under syntetic load(cpu-z stress)
and later. where is the bad ? or ask under which conditions the passmark was done (if its a true value)

3970x (non Pro, the 4ch variant) <- we have one "C++ builder" if I remember correctly Passmark was around 67-70k points after small OC with AIO water cooling and 4000MHz RAM working at 3600MHz (but here the single core performance is higher than Epyc 7T83).

Thanks for everyone’s suggestions!!

So I figured it out in case it’s helpful to anyone - super simple, the VRMs weren’t getting chilled enough… I hadn’t completed my build and while I had watercooled both CPU and GPU, and was doing my leak testing etc., but had no fans setup at the front of the case (I figured the VRMs were doing fine since it was a pretty chilly room, open air with the sides off the case, but it definitely was not enough). The heatsink situation is pretty weak on the ROMED8U-2T, but once I placed fans blowing directly on the VRMs - Monero mining is now pegged at 48K, passmarks are more consistent around 80K etc.

The other big heads-up/regret with going mATX for anyone out there trying to do a small/sexy server build - the right slimsas to u.2 cables are incredibly hard to find (probably everyone knows this on this forum), and I had to order from serialcables with a 3-4 week lead time… and hopefully they work since the connector needs to be much wider than the other slimsas cables I have. Related, the SAS to Sata breakout of course only works for 6g sata drives, which I knew before I purchased, but it is turning to be more of a frustrating issue since the slimsas cables are so hard to get. Plus, now I wish I went dual CPU since the one is performing rock solid now :) 4.8min chia plots in ubuntu, while leaving a few cores for the OS!
