Got a China OEM Epyc from ebay. Put it into my compute server, now only need silent cooling set up.

Architecture: Zen2
Cores: 48(96)
Base Clock: 2.6GHz
Boost Clock: 3.3GHz
L3 Cache: 196MB
TDP: 240W

This CPU will serve in a Gigabyte g292-z20 8GPU server and will mainly do FEM simulations, AI and other GPU intensive tasks.

Can we put this model in a dual socket mobo?

Could you please run a benchmark of xmrig with the configuration that you currently have? Those 2Rx4 memory sticks seems to be really fast

just download the binary from here: Releases · xmrig/xmrig (linux static)

and run it like this: ./xmrig --bench=10M

I'll add benchmarks and more info as soon as I have the System up and running.
And yes Dual socket should be supported.

i would guess performance should be similar to a 7642, provided your workload isnt particularly sensitive to cache-per-core.

7642 - 8x 6-core CCDs, 256MB L3, 5.3MB L3-per-core
7K62 - 6x 8-core CCDs, 192MB L3, 4.0MB L3-per-core

Set up boinc with primegrid, there is international cat day challenge in 3 days (starting Aug 8th 8AM UTC.)
for 5 day PRS (Primorial Search).


I'm throwing Supermicro 7049GP-TRT 2x Gold 6154 on it (4 tasks 4 cores each running in docker under linux with 2 more cores as extras).

Task times

Yes, I keep looking at those and the price seems to be getting lower and lower by five bucks every week. But, my dual 7502 on the H12dsi are running pretty good doing computational analysis, so about a 15% upgrade may not be worth the money...but darned it, I could just build another node for the computational cluster !! Hmm....

This is one of the best price/performance epyc cpu you can get from Chinese market right now, and if you're in China you can get it for less than $250

Nice choice.

Argh ....yes, I did read the Chinese are dumping a lot of US type equipment for home-grown stuff...but this is getting ridiculous.

was a rev 1 but swapped bios with 256mbit IC and flashed 3.0 rev 2 bios.. posts and operates just fine with a cheap test gen 1 CPU

unfortunately I don't have any other CPUs to test.. post card just stays at 00 but the code reader shows a clock and frame signal. I'm pretty certain its not a board revision issue as many have run rome cpu's in the v1 boards by flashing the "rome" half of the v2 bios onto the 128Mbit v1 flash chip. I just decided to replace the chip to take the full v2 bios.

Inspired by this thread I just picked up a 7K62 from tug on ebay for $300 and couldn't be happier with this decision. 48 cores and 96 threads with boost up to 3.3 @ $6.25 per core. Is there any thing else that can compete with this in terms of price per performance for applications that can utilize multiple cores?

I picked up a second order of 7k62's for a dual socket machine (H11dsi rev. 2, 256 GB RAM, Noctua NH-U14S TR4-SP3 CPU coolers, Noctua 140mm 1500 rpm fans, 3 in front, one in back, one on each cooler pointing upwards from the bottom) replacing two 7302's. So far I am very pleased with performance, and air cooling in a Phantex Enthoo Pro 2 case seems to be working well (screamer fans in a server chassis not required???). No VRM temperature issues encountered for heavy real-world CFD calculations (at least for my use case). I did run a s-tui/stress-ng "all core" test and the VRM's were hovering around a toasty 77-78C (I killed the test before thermal equilibrium). I won't encounter this level of stress for my use case since all-core utilization comes and goes but still may explore ways to get additional airflow over the VRM heat sink between the CPU's. Upgrading from 32 to 96 cores for $600 is a pretty decent bargin.
